    Sprint PCS is slated to roll out 3G service in the US in late November - Early December.

    It will not be 384k. It will start a pretty low speed ~28k and ramp up to DSL later in 2002.

    Sell computers for my job (in addition to being a full time CS student). I talked to the AMD rep who comes to our store. He had threemajor points:

    One: no new processors from AMD anytime soon. Just renaming the processors and removing mention of the Athlon name (AMD 1600 for the 1.2 GHz, AMD 2100 etc).

    Two: They are making a killing in the corporate market.

    Three: There next big focus area is the laptop market. This will be the only place with "new" AMD processors. Most likely people will see more 1.0 GHz+ AMD based laptop systems soon.

    with the 1.6 GHz, 64-bit G5 PowerPC processor due out in January or February, and you have a VERY formidable machine.

    Running the OSX Benchmark on the G4/400 tower. And then running the OSX benchmark on a 700mhz P3 laptop.

    Strangely enough, I'm guessing that OSX Benchmark is optimised for Apple hardware. Hmmm... Maybe?

    You can buy a low-end pentium box for about $20. It's about 50x faster than the C64 Obviously you know so very little about the C64, one of the greatest computers ever. Which is too bad. A low end pentium box would probably be more like 10,000-50,000 (maybe even more?) times faster then a C64, considering it had a total of 64KB of RAM and it's processor ran at around 1mhz. C64 processor info: It has 3 registers, 256 opcodes (although not all of them are useful), and runs at around 1 mhz (that was from everything2.org). Take any computer engineering class in college and you'll end up designing hardware that's a ton more complex then that.

But the hunters will miss, and will then be mawled by the large robot bears big robot claws.

    Well, due to the fact that the PPC7400 has an Altivec unit it is much faster than any comparable Intel processor. To get the same speed from Intel hardware you need something like 50 dual Pentium /// computers.

    Who moderates these comments up when they are completely false and incorrect babble only believed by .1% of all computer users (because they like to make their art "pretty")? Everything the guy said is wrong. And obviously wrong.

    I mean really...

    The computer image generator system is a SGI Onyx2 InfiniteReality2 Monster. It includes six InfiniteReality graphic displays, 24 R12000 processors, 12 gigabytes of memory, and access to large disk I/O and gigabit ethernet networking.

    Just to run 4 projectors and a wireless glove or two? Good grief. Well, it's running a SGI port of Windows XP and those are the minimal requirements.
