I was using sunOS and HP/UX in the computer lab of my university. A frind of mine rented me a shoe box full of floppy disks. It was one of the first slackware distributions. A year later I could do the same (ie, installing Linux) using a more convenient cd rom. I'm still using linux but I switched to redhat and then to fedora since then
when I attended university, i needed a new version of java sdk for finishing a project i was working on... I asked the system administrator for an upgrade many times, without success... after a week spent waiting for that upgrade, i hacked the solaris server that hosted alla application via nfs, and i did myself the upgrade. after a week the system admin asked me who gave me the root password... And he was really surprised when i said I didnt know the root password at all. it was 1991 so security was not an actual topic of conversation. During my java upgrade i made fun killing random irc sessions from x terminals, some students went away complaying for system stability.
Probably the tcp/ip stack is included in the sources (i guess it has been fixed in SP1)... hahaha wonder also if win$hit source may be a violation of sco IP...
Using nvidia drivers my system (duron 1300, mb kt133a, geforce 2 mx 200) has no more than 7-9 days of utime, then it hangs. Im now using the "nv" driver that comes with xfree, without opengl support, because to me stability is more important than opengl. Am i the only one with hang problems?
I'have been sleeping for years with my linux workstation always on, when i periodically turn it off for cleaning all the dust inside... well silence its a real surprise. if i had space, i'd probably put my case away from my room, leaving my monitor, printer, mouse & keyboard as usual on my desk. Has someone of you already done this?
I remember some years ago, when it was found a security bug in zlib... and that some microsoft programs (office and so on) where affected by the bug. So proprietary software steals open source software, open source software cannot interoperate with proprietary software. To me all the sco rumors are microsoft directed.

when a was younger it would have mattered, but not now (I'm 40). I mean if they want quality they must pay it. that is my opinion
so you are saying he is not stupid for his master collection?
