Whoever the hell modded this one "Interesting" instead of "Funny" needs to read that little line at the bottom of the screen that says "Use of this product does not enable one to freeze the environment."

Then again, they're probably the same type of person that thinks drinking Miller Lite will make you sexy, fad diets work, and driving a sports car gives you a bigger penis.

What? Funny? I wasn't kidding, dude. I know that Gibson webmaster. It's kinda sad watching him play a I V VI progression over and over to keep up with the traffic...

Slashdotted Gibson.com pretty fast... anyone want to bet they only had one guitar serving the site?

Anakin: Look! A clone! They are attacking!
[a cardboard standup of Anakin is lowered to the floor using rope]
    Standup: RAR!!!!!
    Anakin: I will.... (line?)
    Offstage: I will kill him!
    Anakin: I will kill him!
[Anakin takes out a plastic lightsaber (purchased at Amazon.com) and pokes a hole in the standup]
Standup: Gah! You have... uh.... KILLED ME!!!!!!!
[a stagehand runs in front of the camera and lights the standup on fire]
Anakin: Ha ha! Look at him burn!
Queen: All this killing is a real turn-on, Anakin!
    Anakin: It is?
    [they conceive Leia]

  6. Mac/UNIX User on Do We Spend More On Linux Or Windows? · · Score: 1

I know this may sound like flamebait, but I do not intend it to be. I, personally, have not spent money on either. Any Linux distro I have (Mandrake, WinLinux, and I plan to have LinuxPPC soon), was from a free CD or downloaded (on my 56k modem, mind you). That is how dedicated I am to saving money.... the most I have spent on an OS is $120 for OS X, and I got my money's worth, although I will never spend that much again... I try to not spend money on anything but games (and I have been successful). Just my 2.

  8. Humanity does it again... on [Your Name Here] Goes To Mars · · Score: 1

Well, it seems that Humanity cannot keep its basic drives under control. Look at what we are doing to the planet Earth. Garbage is one of our primary problems here, and now we are sending more to Mars in the form of names. Yes, it would be very nice to have my name on another planet, but what does it really accomplish? It's just junk we can now pile up on other worlds. We are indeed a doomed race... Sorry if this post was a bit bleak and troll-like. I don't mean to be a troll, please forgive me.

  9. Re:Chances of Finding Extraterrestrial life on Gordon Moore On Moore's Law · · Score: 1

I am sorry If I have offended you, but I used English measurement because a large portion of Slashdot's readers are from the United States (and some from Great Britain). As you did not know, I am quite a supporter for the metric system... but I won't post with it for the sake of readers. Since you can obviously convert the distance (or know common distances), I do not see the point in your post.

  10. Re:Chances of Finding Extraterrestrial life on Gordon Moore On Moore's Law · · Score: 3

You have a very good point. Double the processing power= double the amount of ETI reports we can go through, but there is another law that will keep the chances low: lightspeed. 186,282 Miles Per Second. The closest star is 4.3 light years... 8.6 years for a round trip. Then you take the chances of a planet existing around Alpha Centauri (low), take the chances that the planet orbits in the life zone (which is relatively thin), then take the chances that life would evolve, then take the chances that the life would become intelligent, then take the chances that that intelligent life would live long enough to develop radio, then take the chances that the ETI would be seaching the particular radio band we are broadcasting on... and so on. Then apply that for planets thousands or millions of lightyears away, and you see that processing speed is but a minor factor in the search for ETI. As I said, you did bring up a good point, though.

This is really kinda strange. I spend 50-60% of my day on the Internet. I fill out so many forms that require your name, it would make your head spin. My emal address is posted on hundreds of assorted web sites. I don't use filters, and I rarely delete email. I thought this was a recipe for spam, but I get none. No spam. Strange, isn't it?

  13. Re:Heh. on Sean In The Middle · · Score: 1

You have a partially valid point. In today's world, there is a fine line between the hero and the villian. In response to your comment oh his parents: Unfortunately, his parents ultimately do not affect his behavoir. They would be portrayed as "neglecting and irresponsible" by the media, but the media shouldn't be trusted. In response to your portrayal of him as "a sick, evil kid": Would he really be sick and evil? In a way, yes. In a way, no. Taunting is no excuse for violence, but our mind lets go of rationality when so pushed. Keep these things in mind, and don't trust the media.
