Kind of takes most of the fun out of this project doesent it? Im not going to make this one my self, because, well, i dont have a car... and i dont have an iPaq eather... or the harddisk and i never heard about the archos thing (will check). But i do like assembling things like this. Especially Audio things

I am very glad that IBM makes all these breaktrougs on chip making (and on harddisks by the way) but im starting to wonder if IBM stands alone in the research of silicon properties. Because if it keeps up just a little more like this (a few more good inventions/discoveries) you will have to ask IBM permission to produce chips soon. I mean if IBM has patents on all the things that will makes a porcessor fast, less power consumting, cooler, smaller and in the end also cheaper, there will be no compeeting and IBM will be setting the price. Im not saying that they will be "microsoft mean" in their pricing, but one can expect features like that.

But if we were talking server i must say that i find the OS-X rather as a british lightweight (in market posission, not stabillity and features) compared to W2k. On the rest i do agree with you

I do also think that it is very important to get this one working soon because, for come reason this is the program that most OSS critics judge OSS on.

I think that if you, to begin with, stay with the low maintenance features, like file/print services, simple web (or if your web-developers use cgi, also advanced web), DHCP, DNS, mail and other services, you can save alot. Most of these services are fairly simple to set up and requires very little or even no maintenance after setup, have equal to better performance compared to MS and has a fabulous price. Another great thing is that you can often sneak these products into your system (if management demand MS) without management finding out, and when the management finally comes to theire sences and want linux/xBSD systems instead of their MS, you can say 'Ehh... ... ... ehh, we already do' and be the hero of the day

  13. Basically it says this: on Superconducting Power Cables in Denmark · · Score: 2

They, DTU/NKT/RISØ, has a long time to come up with this cable wich consists of the powder Bismuth-strontium-calcium-copperoxid also known as BiSCCO, a material used by most superconductor makers. The powder is poured into a thin silver pile wich is then pressed severel times into a thin superconducting strand. 37 of these are put into a bigger silver pipe. The pipes are cooled to -196 degrees C. The pipes will be able to be pulled thru old cablepipes underground, and will with their reduced heat and lesser magnetism be gentler to the environment. The cables can transport up to 7k amps per square cm. This the article says is little over half of what the americans have in there detroit project (12k amks). While the americans can transport more power, the danish cable is more flexible, lighter and has the lowest energyloss at all. The use of it now is to connect old powerstations to new ones during updating of powerstations. The cables are for now only used in high power cables because they do require alot of power themselfs to keep that low temperature, but the cables do reduce the amount of energy lost in the cables with up to 40% compared to ordinarry copper cables. The article states even though it is a major breakthrough and defenetly the americans have done some great advances too, this is still babysteps. The powder and the creation of the cables has to be perfected and simplified. goals are to make it cheaper to make and be able to have longer cables
