it's as dumb as patenting the fading of music as the next song is about to be played. In the process of setting the translucency of a window you will still move the translucency over a certain amount of time no matter how small that time is. Whether it is done automatically or by scrollbars THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT A COMPANY SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO PATENT.
how naive. if I didn't have to pay for my education I would be have more money to buy a house and a new car too. oh wait, if I didn't have to buy a house or pay for a car I would have money to buy more money to spend on vacation and other things too.
Maybe they left the market because it wasn't a boom as they thought it would. I imagine wired networks are still outgrowing the wi-fi ones by a wide margin
first of all, linux is probably more adopted in the US than anywhere else. secondly, linux is not the most adopted in the rest of the world, windows is.
a couple of months before this, some MP police guy in iraq was posting pictures to a message board about how they beat one of the iraqi contractors up because the intepreter said he didnt like americans.
Many people who heard of these "abuses" just shrugged them off anyways but once they saw the pictures it all changed.
It's sad to see those pics but you can also understand it when the iraqis are blowing up humvees everyday with roadside bombs. That same MP who posted pics etc posted one of his hummer after it took a hit from an rpg. I guess it's hard to restrain yourself when somebody is trying to kill you huh
I see nothing wrong with software patents. it is up to the patent office to make sure people don't file trivial patents, but that applies to hardware and inventions too. The problem isn't that there are software patents, it is that stupid software patents are being given out by the patent office.
Developers need a way to protect their ideas and inventions too. As if writing free software wasn't bad enough
It is called the Microsoft Baseline security analyzer. It will tell you which updates you need to get and even point you to the security bulletin page to download it
and many wonder why jobs are all going overseas. Lazy admins that don't do squat all day, they can't even install patches. Microsoft never cared about security, it seems system admins never did either. Everytime a new virus comes out they run around like beheaded chickens watching their house of cards fall down.
This isn't just a windows problem, it is an admin problem. There are tons and I mean tons of hacked unix boxes that script kiddies use for distributing warez etc because they are connected to huge bandwidth pipes.
nope, if you clean it up it will just end up elsewhere. IRC is a place for people with weird tastes to gather and do their thing. Kill irc and they'll end up on WASTE or DirectConnect or some place else. Many of the mainstream irc networks already ban warez or kiddy porn etc, but guess what, these weirdos now host their own irc servers
Many developers don't develop mac software because they down own a mac. If I had a mac I would probably start writing a bit of code here and there but as a dude who only has a PC I have zero interest in developing for the mac. It has everything to do with market share. Unless I have an application that I feel would be useful on the mac and will bring in lots of money there is no reason for me to write for the hell of it. I'm sure this applies to many small-medium sized software development houses too
if you want silent don't use fans. I went to the shop the other day to get a new harddrive and they had an athlon 64 with water cooling and the thing made zero noise. It was one of the very few times I would have bought something (if I had the money) without thinking about it first
Canadian cops have been complaining about this for a long time. The legal system is too easy on criminals. Maybe the judges are all pot smoking leftists. It is not just people who kill, child molesters etc all get off easy in the Canadian legal system
I see zero problems with this. the black box should be mandatory. It will only take a close relative or family member to get run down by some idiot for you to come to the same conclusion. People should not be allowed to get away on a technicality when they committed a crime
yea but nintendo has been in #3 and isn't dying anytime soon. I fail to see how being #2 is "dying" and if there were #1 we would all be up in arms anyways

how does it refute the claim that it is hard to use? if it was easy to use there wouldn't be that perception it is hard to use. It's a nice little story but that's where it ends.
IMHO the best thing you can do for you kid is to let him/her do what other kids are doing. At this rate, at 8 years old she'll be totally hooked to the computer (a good computer programmer or something maybe) but totally lacking in social and life skills

Wasn't WTL available a long time ago? I thought microsoft didn't *support* it at all. it was use as you wish and the source was available.

3 hours? too slow. upgrade to belkin, they break down every 1.5 hours

didn't they have one of these things that notified about the coke machine being empty pre-dot-com-boom?

it is not an applicatoin problem, it is an os problem.. unless you are suggesting that the os components should be written in .net too

the meaner looking larger card with enough horsepower to electrocute a small rodent is far more appealing to buyers..
or am I the only one...

it is the cost of doing business. any large business puts money aside for this sort of this. anything else sherlock?
but they don't. what is the big deal with software? it is just software. They are far far more important things to be distressed over than software
