    of course it is beneath them. move to a country where you weren't born for wages less that what you could be earning in the country you were born in, where all your family & friends live in. It's like saying an Indians should move to somalia because they'll get jobs there. It makes sense for an Indian to move to america to work where wages are high and but no sense the other way around. If wages were higher or equal in India as they are in america it would make more sense

    Would he be interested in investing in SCO, they asked? Goldfarb wouldn't identify the executives, but says neither Chairman William Gates nor CEO Steve Ballmer were among them. He says Microsoft didn't put any money into BayStar or the SCO investment.


    so if microsoft didn't put any money into it why would baystar invest in SCO.. just for the hell of it?

    sounds like a dumb move to me. You don't go about sueing customers when you have disputes with them, you meet and resolve it. Real can kiss their contract goodbye when it expires

    you're wrong. There is nothing wrong with a monopoly leveraging itself into other markets, they just cannot use their monopoly power to bully or gain an advantage in what they do.

    You seem to be suggesting that MS is barred from going into any other market at all. that is false. They can do it if they play by the rules

    To microsoft windows is not a kernel, it's a product. To compete they enhance their product by adding components that makes their product attractive. Every other manufacturer does this, car companies add dvd and audio players all sorts of crazy accessories to their cars to make them sell. so why shouldn't ms?

    That's funny because it is these same companies that get owned when the exploits come out. Many companies don't patch, either through ignorance or fear. Take MDAC for example, very buggy and MS has a patch to upgrade to the latest version but I've run into companies that require a certain version of MDAC. "We specifically need this version to run. your app uses that newer version with all the great features but we certainly don't want that. we want to old one with lots of securit holes in it"

    the question is what does israel want? free software or good software. Do you want microsoft software instead but don't want it because it is too expensive? or do you don't want it because it doesnt meet your requirements? Also how does ms being a monopoly affect your decision since you easily switched to another software without suffering any effects from this monopoly you are so scared of

    I'm curious why it redirects to a cgi on their homepage. doesn't it pose the same security risk as the invalid url itself since you are now trusting a cgi on their homepage (what happens if it gets hacked or they get infected with the evil bug). Isn't that a security risk in of itself?

    I plan to download the source right after this, but why can't it fix the bug in the code and send it to the correct webpage instead of redirecting?

    sounds like spyware to me

    funny if ms came out with a crappy patch like this we'ld all be ripping our hair out

    I was disappointed with the word "accidental" because the misconception or FUD as you call isn't associated with this rare case.

    What every developer asks is "if I include gpl in my code will I have to distribute parts of my code that doesn't use or has no relation to the gpl code I used?". The answer is yes. That's where the viral "FUD" comes from. All you have to say no to kill the fud. but if it is really YES, then it is viral. case closed.

    wouldn't it be better to let the site just not resolve or display an expired domain error until someone at microsoft figured out what was happening? btw I don't think renewing it gave him ownership of the domain. it takes a while for expired domains to be resold to give the original owner a little more time to claim it

    having read the cnn and bbc review they seem to give the original matrix high marks. The impression I got at that time was that the original sucked (I liked it btw). I agree Matrix Reloaded wasn't as good when compared to the original. The whole thing looked like a music video but the crux was interesting. Neo is the 6th version of the anomaly. The core thingy where the humans lived has been destroyed numerous times already. They could have told an interesting story about the matrix with this but the movie was just one stupid and spectacular sfx after another as will probably be with revolution.

    isn't it like saying the techniques to print money should be open source and available to the public because we want to know if our money is printed right? Whether it is open source or not is irrelevant. Obviously the government should have access to the source from the vendor (just like the government owns the designs to all the military aircraft it gives boeing or lockheed to build). Good software is software engineered properly. Whether it is open or not is irrelevant
