Germany already have an injunction against them, and I think there is one in the UK.
SCO will keep kicking and screaming for every second they can until it goes to court, which, the speed the US judicial system runs at, is in mid 2005 iirc.
SuSE still issues patches for SuSE 7.1, which is 4 versions behind the current (8.2). With a release cycle of 6 months or so for each release, this makes it 2 years.
This has already been done in Germany by Linuxtag. I think redhat have done something similar in the US but the laws are "better" in Germany, for want of a better word and so more easily inforced.
I've had no problems with my vaio. The pcmcia cdrom drive can make things a little akward, but thats half the fun:)
The only thing I can see being an issue is the new Centrino chipset. Whats the linux support for this chipset like? Last thing I heard it wasn't supported very well, which could give issues with irq routing / dma etc.
I'm not saying I would only "internalize" this injustice (if thats what it is) if I _had_ contributed more. I was trying to make a point that if I'm pissed off at the opensource community being attacked with FUD and corporations, there must be people who have devoted more time and more effort into the community than me, who would be more pissed off and offended at this.
Fuck ingenuity, good ideas, communities and generosity. Just make money with patent / copyright system abuse, and speading FUD about anything thats good for the world...
I'm glad I haven't written any big GPL apps or contributed as much as some to the open source world, as I would be seriously pissed off (and a little upset maybe) that my goodwill and hours spent contributing were being eroded by money grabbing, whiny corporations.
What is the delay in getting SCO to court with IBM so they actually have to SHOW US what they are claiming violates their contract with IBM and / or their IP ?
IANAL, so I might be missing something here, but the sooner they go to court, the better imho, else they will keep pumping out FUD and hyping their stock price.
Everyone knows linux hackers and users don't shave, and the more hair the better. Also, simply using the Tesco Online Grocery Shopping system would get round the problem.
In the post.com era, with soaring spam (with half the sites they advertise not working, and random crap in the messages to avoid filters), huge flash adverts in the middles of pages, and sites going under every day, don't be suprised to see companies scraping by every way possible. Afterall, lawsuits and patent infringements, are practically the only source of real revenue. How many banner ad clicks does it take to get $1,000,000 ?
Not sure about this move, I know a lot of people who like getting boxed sets of software with a good sized printed manual in it (SuSE for example includes two manuals in professional, totally over 1500 pages of stuff).
Also, with the whole "Linux is good for use in poor areas, third world countries and countries like india / china", how easy is it to get the software when dialup or internet cafe is the only way to access the net ?
In a moment of slightly drunken stupidity, I registered darlmcbride.com.
At the moment, its pointing to the "Top ten reasons to use linux."
Does anyone have any other suggestions about what would be a better thing to point it at, or put on it ?
It doesn't all have to be "screw you darl" crap, I'm looking for a way to inform people of the real situation or at least point them to something that isn't a paid for lie.
I wonder how much influence gnome and kde have had on the Windows GUI designers...?
It looks so radically different from two versions ago (2000).
"someone" IS dragging SCOs sorry ass to court.. IBM
Should get to court mid 2004 according to McBride. If this is the amount of noise they make in 4-5 months, imagine their claims in 18 months or so
US law is.

Their office was open when you called ? Isn't it like.. 5 - 6 am there at the moment ?
Can anyone else confirm this...?
Looks like this parent pade it to the Inquirer as well...

One way to fight the suits at SCO :)
Well, SCO's CEO (Darl) looks suspiciously like Microsoft's CEO (dear old Bill)

Made one :)

Product of 15 minutes of boredom: DarlBorg!
and a slashdot story icon here
Can we please have a DarlBorg image (similar to the Microsoft story image, but with the obvious difference).
:)
Thanks
..and they still have this on their homepage.
Two-faced bastards.

So.. there is nothing we can do for 5 years or so? They can just keep pumping out fud and making their stock price go up?
:)
Ah Ha! With luck in 3 years it will be so high they will replace Linux as Microsofts #2 threat and they will go after them
Quick! Buy SCO stock!

Don't normally reply to myself, by I just thought about it further and realised that the IBM equivalent of the Imac girl would be Optimus Prime
..Scary stuff :|
1) I never thought I'd see the day.
2) That logo clashes like hell with the sexy aqua theme 8|
Ahh... "deep black" ... much better than that "light black" they use these days..
oh, the irony of that news story being on a .au site.
Why the hell does australia care what the most shoplifted item in britain is ?
