Is it me, or is everything reported that is IT related these days a conspiracy?
Just because you think they're not out to get you, doesn't mean it's true. Technological development has ran rampantly unchecked for some time; as evident by erosion of personal privacy and rights.
I wish someone would write an app were you can press a button on the phone and hang up and a smart adaptive talking application takes over and provides selective responses such as "can you repeat that bit again" or "right, tell me more" or "cool sign me up" and massively wastes these evil telemarketers time.
I settle for a satellite that will identify the call center of the telemarketers and nuke it from orbit... or at least dispatch attack drones to level the building.
You do realise the next thing they'll do is requiring TLD DNS to start logging IPs of hosts requesting IP address to those domains, since "they're surely up to No Good (tm) if they're looking up IP address(es) of those IP pirates." (Yes, I know it's absurd. But more bone headed things have happened before.)
Everybody wants their cake and eat it too. Cut this, somebody whines. Cut that, somebody else whines. It never ends. Budget is so full of earmarks and entitlements a balanced budget is but a pipe dream. It's not by accident that nobody ever cuts social security for the retired, despite all their contributions are long gone, decades ago. Retirees generally outlives their contributions, yet they're all still receiving their benefits. Cutting that is like licking the electrified third rail and nobody that wants to remain in elected orifice would dare to even suggest touching it.
Watch all the whiners about how Democrats is bankrupting the country would abruptly change their tune when their benefits are on the chopping block.
This seems to be a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing. Bush warned us about this long ago and tried to save us.
I've always thought what der Führer Shrub advocated was to chop off the left wing... hand so that right hand is accountable to no one and need not share anything with anyone.
Law firm representing NBC has filed suit alleging their client's copyrights have been violated for unauthorized rebroadcasting of the film content. "The audio programs recorded on those films are wholly owned intellectual properties belonging to our client, and their unauthorized rebroadcasting over the web is a willful theft of our client's intellectual properties. We fully intend to pursue this matter for the maximum payou... punitive damage under our law... ahm, the law."
The more people get sued, the more ridiculous it will seem to the outside observer, and the more support there will be for copyright reform.
Sorry, but your expectation rest on the assumption that politicians gives a flying f_ck, and that somehow common sense would prevail in a system where every politician is bought and paid for by special interest groups.
Considering the guy skipped town shortly before the announcement (he was in China) I would venture to say that there's some amount of creditability to the announcement. (He wasn't about to take a chance and stick around when the fusion experiment might reduce North Korea to a giant crater.)
Would a security inspector even know what an LTO or 3592 tape cartridge looks like?
You're of course, absolutely right; those minimum wage thugs don't know. But YOU ARE EXPECTED TO COOPERATE by supplying the hardware that can read these "obscure" formats on demand, or they will be confiscate all the same, AND you will be detained. Remember ports of entry these days are constitution-free-zone.
For this scheme to work, the toxic app host/author has to know and a sense of moral. The very fact these apps exists implies their host/authors either have weaken or non-existent sense of moral, therefor this scheme will never fly.
Rambus is one company that needs to be nuked from orbit while all of their lawyers and officers are locked in the building.
After a quick browse of their "store", it would appear that those thingies are 700 UK pounds a piece.
"Same old sh_t, different day."

This is one game that is just begging to be a torrent...

And they'll continue to do so until somebody SMITE them with a very LARGE FINE targeting their CEOs and boards.

After all that was said has been analyzed; "everything canceled out."
... that they start putting contracts on each other, then in the end the world would be a better place without them both.

When do we get to deposit sharks with head mount lasers in that body of water?

I fully expect the cartels to lodge complain of some kind (no matter how absurd) any day now...

Sir, you're no Mel Gibson...

You think as if they are NOT already treating customers as enemies.

The government is pissed only because unpaid internship is a unrealised source of revenue. (No Pay = No Income Tax)
Why does this remind me a lot of "war on drugs" that USA is presently still losing (as it escalates to neighboring countries as well.)
It's the same genius that tells employees to save all their electronic documents using smaller fonts to save disk space...
"Gee, I feel safer already" A lot of huff and puff, and not much else.
