The guy who is making $28000 a year really pays 10% of the first $7,550 + 15% of the amount between $7,550 and $28,000 for a total of $3822.
The guy making $32000 pays 10% of the first $7,550 + 15% of the amount between $7,550 and $30,650 + 25% of the amount between $30,650 and $32,000 and for a total of $4557.
I don't know where you buy your software at, but the standard pricing is:
Windows Home Upgrade: $100
Windows Home: $200
Windows Pro Upgrade: $200
Windows Pro: $300
Office Standard: $400
Office Standard Upgrade: $240
These were the prices that Best Buy reports on their web page and the prices that I have seen elsewhere as well. The student and teacher edition of Office is $150.
There is not just the expectation that tips will make a difference. It is required that they earn the regular minimum wage of $5.15/hr after tips or the employer must make up the difference.
