Well that's because you don't know enough history. Pre Barry Goldwater the South was the party of the military hawks. Many of the neo-cons predecessors changed parties during the Regan era. The Republicans are no longer the party of Lincoln they are far more the party of the South. Why? Well for many reasons that you can read about in a great many books. Now don't confuse what I said, I am not finger pointing at the Dems, I am saying that over the last forty years the style and ideas of the parties have switched. The Bible belt nows votes Republican but they are still Dixie-crats through and through.
What? Did you read my post? I was questioning the assumption the the US did this. This is not FUD, this is ration discussion about possible causes for 4 cables down in a week.
Um why not? I bet a smart high school student could make depth charges. What was the depth? With a re-breather and a handful of flares I bet you could damage a cable pretty well. You're the kind of person would say it is impossible to bring a down a building with a few box cutters.
Remember this, "No one has ever lost money underestimating the intelligence of the average American." P. T. Banum
Also read up "Rise of the Vulcans" Give a convincing case that the neo-cons are more directly descended from the southern wing of the Democratic party pre-1964. Also that Vulcans, Powell, Armatige, Wolfawitz, Rice, Cheney, Fukiyama, Kerpatrick, Bush et al. are in fact a sub-set of the neo-cons.
My personal opinion is that they represent a far worse variant, that they represent a radical anti-federalist kakistocracy designed to weaken the federal government so much that we go back to a states centric system of government. You know, "may the south rise again! ba-na-na-na-na-nanana-nah-nah-nah!" Katrina, Iraq, the tax cut, and pretty much everything in the last eight years was so poorly done as to be criminally negligent. You also cannot discount the issue of the Dominist Party (Dominion of biblical law over secular law) which Bush has been a pawn of through the evangelical movement.
Religious conservatives have allowed all sins to be committed in the name of ending abortion. They have cut off the technocracy and institutional memory of our bureaucracies in petty partisan power grabs. The CIA was gutted by Porter Goss, the Justice Department is in shambles, FEMA is seen as the touch of death, the State Department has been publicly emasculated by the Pentagon, and Iraq has now blackened the eye of the Pentagon. Seriously who the fuck is left? The TSA... wait where's my "Kip Hawley is an idiot t-shirt." Oh there it is next to the copy of the constitution George Bush used to wipe his ass with after he sodomized the body in the grave of the unknown soldier.
These people are domestic enemies of the constitution and should be tried for high treason.
I'm going to have to say everything that as been a response to the Great Great Grand Parent post smells like bullshit. The US, esp. the NSA is fucking good at looking at OPD (other people's data.) Who has the resources to amplify light enough to see galaxies like dust glowing in the impossible blackness of space? Every international fiber has been bent by us long ago. Undersea fiber is slow to lay down, extremely long and we have the USS Jimmy Carter (SSN-23) to go down, unclad, bend and listen. As to the crack about needing a data center on site just remember that the NSA has 1/2 of the planets computing resources and a meta-cranium of idiot savants. Things can be worked out when you evolved from Benchley Park.
Who wants to limit data in and out of the Gulf? Let my rephrase that... who thinks that there is only one book worth reading and that all other ideas are a poison that will destroy their culture? Who wants to break down communication and sow discord? Who uses low tech, low price attacks in an attempt to bleed resources of major powers? Who has recently declared that enemy number one is the U.A.E. and not the idea "formerly know as freedom."
Well for one thing you may be mistaking the culprit.
Al-Qaeda's main enemy is not the US. It is Arab countries who are not conservative enough. 9-11 was about getting the US out of The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA,) not about freedom or anything a vague as that. If Al-Qaeda was able to cut off Internet service to the KSA, UAE, Qatar, and etc. that would be a huge coup for Al-Qaedi. What do they object to? They object to, anything that allows people to question their limited ultra-wahabi dogma. Currently UAE is the official named target of Al-Qaeda's wrath.
Don't forget the largest US base in the region is in Qatar.
That's a shame because I just got back from a post human future where we used the AOL CDs to add enough mass to Jupiter to ignite a second sun. We are all rich because we have passed through the singularity and indulge in emotion formally known as &*@!!
Don't confuse the religious right with the Dominist Party. One is just two the intersection of two tail ends of of two seperate bell curves, religious-selcular and liberral-conservative. The Dominist Party is a group of people who want to institute biblical law in the US. Check the Yurica Report.
Yeah... cite your sources dude. I've read just about everything I can about DMT and every article I've read idicated that it is not part of dreaming.
Here's wikipeidiam note the word SPECULATIONS...
Speculations Several speculative and as yet untested hypotheses suggest that endogenous DMT, produced in the human brain, is involved in certain psychological and neurological states. As DMT is naturally produced in small amounts in the brains and other tissues of humans, and other mammals,[10] some believe it plays a role in promoting the visual effects of natural dreaming, and also near-death experiences and other mystical states. A biochemical mechanism for this was proposed by the medical researcher J. C. Callaway, who suggested in 1988 that DMT might be connected with visual dream phenomena, where brain DMT levels are periodically elevated to induce visual dreaming and possibly other natural states of mind. [11]
I don't think DMT is present in most adults except in extreme situations, when your pineal calcifies around 7 years you stop producing it. Read this book by Rick Strassman about his DEA & NIMH approved DMT injection studies at Arizona. It is probably the best explanation for NDE's and abductions. He thinks that DMT floods the pineal in a NDE where specialized nerve cells pull the DMT across the blood brain barrier, The Pineal is not part of the brain but the soft palette and as such is outside the barrier. There is little experimental evidence for DMT and dreams, if you know of some journal articles I'd love to see them but I think this is an outdate model.
As for weaving through people I bet the firmware functions pretty well in a drunken state. It might even be more effective with social limits removed and the physical support from the press of the crowd.
Well that doesn't matter for shit either way because in events like that your memory is terrible. In experiments where they simulated bank robberies the witnesses have terrible recollections of the perp etc. People are fucking terrible memory devices and that's all there is to it. Unless you've been trained for situational awareness or use mnemonics you're just pissing most of the data down the drain.
I expect this experiment is spot on and here's why. Knowing things are going to be ok sitting on your ass in front of a PC is one thing. Seeing someone pull a pin out of a carabineer and watching that platform race away from you at 1 G of acceleration is fucking terrifying. When I bungee jumped, forward was fun. I did a nice swan dive and tucked the cable between my legs for the bounce back. Going backwards scared the shit out of me. I screamed like a little girl and felt the muscels around my collar bone twinge in a way that hurt me to my ribs, I pawed the air in front of me felt like everything in the universe was deeply deeply wrong. I could see the cable attaching me to the bridge but the thought of the rock I could not see behind me was more powerful. In this experiment the cut the rope for all intents and purposes, and I think that would be out of this world terrifying.
Now if you don't think the good neuro transmitters kicked in give them a dose of DMT before they go. But then they might not be able to read for all the self replicating machine elves.
Electromechanical Batteries or EMB or Flywheel Batteries by their old name. These have the highest power density of any energy storage system. They are so reliable they can be buried or sent into space. They can hole huge amounts of power. They can be recharged very quickly. They do not burst into fire. They are not hazardous.
Specific Power EMB (5-10 kW/kg) Lead Acid (0.1-0.5 kW/kg) Energy Recovery EMB (90%-95%) Lead Acid (60%-70%) Specific Energy EMB (100 Wh/kg) Lead Acid (30-35 Wh/kg) Service Lifetime EMB (>10 years) Lead Acid (3-5 years) Self Discharge Time EMB (Weeks to months) Lead Acid (variable) Hazardous Chemicals EMB (none) Lead Acid (Lead, Sulfur, & Acid) "A new look at an Old Idea the Electromechanical Battery" Science and Technology Review April 1996 by Dangerous EMB (possibly in massive physical impact) Lead Acid (High fire danger)
Caterpillar and Beacon power already sell off the shelf UPS based on EMB for anything up to a whole grid substation. These are the answer to balancing the output of solar and wind power as well, far better than ice batteries or lead acid. These are the answer to solving our reliability problems with the national power grid (if each substation could self power for even a few 1/10s of a second you can reroute the grid. In fact these are even a possible answer to batteries for cars thanks to new fiber based flywheels instead of steel. There is literally no sound reason to use Lead acid to backup a data center, a telephone switch, or a cell tower anymore.
The FCC should demand that the power backup meets a certain level of reliability and power density within a top percentile of the most cost effective solution so that people don't use old outdated technology just because it is a system that they are accustomed to.
Mark Twain said "Love for the country always; love for the government when it deserves it."
The system is the constitution like the mycelium of a fungus; the government is the fruit that pops to the surface. We can harvest that fruit and it will grow back without damaging the underlying structure. The only real threat is if the current political oscillation has damaged the technocracy and the bureaucracy to the point that we may have lost some of our institutional memory. If FEMA literally can't remember where the files are, or if the CIA analysts who have read 25 years of transcripts from Iran are forced out and can tell what's going on by tonal changes, what are we going to do? This is why Porter Goss and Gonzales are a threat.
When I read by "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings" Maya Angelou I got one thing out of it; you have to be rich to have an opinion. This is why we pay for content from Consumer reports, to make them rich enough so they can have a real and honest judgment about things we buy. This is also why they can afford to make sure no one uses their opinion as an endorsement, they don't want to be soiled by the petty filth of capitalism.
Not to be a Troll either but talk to the Mexicans about La Reconquista. Many Mexicans believe that we stole Texas and California from them and they should just take it back. So maybe the knee jerk angry response has its roots in an actual concept of foreign conquest and control. Also remember that if you want to have your ass kicked as an empire all you have to do is oppose and overwhelming flow of populations. Now does this mean we should build walls and have the INS acting like Gestapo? I personally think not but we do need to think about ways we can channel and control the movement of people into our country.
Oh btw I just noticed this, I did not say Cheney was against the war only that he knew what would happen. Clearly Cheney was for the war. If you need a reason for that lookk at the change in value of his Haliburton stock options since he was elected. (By the way the lying fuck said he sold all of his stocks.)
Millennium Challenge 2002 (MC02) was a major wargame exercise conducted by the United States armed forces in mid-2002, likely the largest such exercise in history. The exercise, which ran from July 24 to August 15 and cost 250 million dollars, involved both live exercises and computer simulations. MC02 was meant to be a test of future military "transformation"--a transition toward new technologies that enable network-centric warfare and provide more powerful weaponry and tactics. The simulated combatants were the United States, denoted "Blue", and an initially unknown adversary in the Middle East, "Red". Most of the people on the U.S. side assumed that the adversary in the game would be Iraq, but according to a Nova show on PBS, it was later revealed that the other side was simulating the military forces of Israel, since U.S. military officials felt it was the only state in the region that would be a worthy adversary for American military power.
Red, commanded by retired Marine Corps general Paul K. Van Riper, used motorcycle messengers to transmit orders to front-line troops, evading Blue's sophisticated electronic surveillance network. They also used a fleet of small boats to determine the position of Blue's ships without being detected. In the early days of the exercise, Red launched a massive salvo of cruise missiles, overwhelming the Blue forces' electronic sensors, destroying sixteen warships. Soon after that offensive, another significant portion of Blue's navy was "sunk" by an armada of small Red boats carrying out both conventional and suicide attacks, able to engage Blue forces due to Blue's inability to detect them as well as expected.
At this point, the exercise was suspended and Blue's ships were "re-floated." There were many within the upper echelons of the Department of Defense that found the results displeasing, and it was decided that the wargame should be started over. The rules of the exercise were essentially changed shortly thereafter, with the different sides ordered to follow predetermined, scripted plans of action, leading to allegations that the exercise was scripted and "$250 million was wasted" [1]. General Van Riper resigned soon after, concerned that the wargame would serve to merely reinforce an increasing notion of infallibility within the U.S. military rather than serve as a learning experience. He was quoted in the BBC/Discovery Channel documentary A Perfect War as saying that what he saw in MC02 echoed the same attitudes taken on by the Department of Defense of Robert McNamara going in to and during the Vietnam War, namely the idea that the U.S. military could not and cannot be defeated.
