It may well be true that Ballmer "think(s) there are experts who claim Linux violates our intellectual property". But so what? And then he follows up with the comment "I'm not going to comment." He DID comment - this is a classic example of the use of FUD. If his objective was not to spread Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt, why did he comment in the first place.
I equally make the statement "I think there are experts who claim Microsoft violates GPL intellectual property" That is FUD, but I also have the guts to say that I think that as well, which is a factual statement.
"What you have to realise is none of this means anything. So homeland security is notified. So they have a look at your records. So they eventually notice nothing is wrong, and they go away."
And you really think they will just go away, end of story, no records taken? I have no doubt that from that day forth you will be in a database as someone to be watched in future.
Yes, DC is better for a local area, until you need it at a different voltage than it was delivered at. Then AC starts to be better. And how many sites use the same voltage everywhere? Sweet FA. For example a PC uses 12v, 5v and more. A TV uses from about 25Kv to 5 volt. etc. etc.
My experience is that the relaxed state is the key. I see myself and others making bad decisions in the big picture context when we feel we have to make them on the fly. Walking away from a crisis or immediate need for a decision frequently produces a better result. But it can piss off PHBs and others when they THINK an immediate decision is required.
And you Sir are probably wrong as well. Assuming 2 trees were planted (that is not completely clear, both could be involved in the planting of one tree), the trees could be:
- Both planted on earth,
- Both planted in the traveller's vehicle
- One each planted on earth and one in the vehicle.
Only in the last case would something similar to what you propose be correct. So in all probability you are at least 66% wrong.
Not exactly blinding obvious. Ctrl-Z is supposed to stop the current job, not undo it.

Bollocks. If you design your web site in such a way to properly and openly reflect your business or whatever, no problems. If you attempt to defraud or otherwise screw search engine results then google (and hopefully other search engines) has every right to get shitty. From a consumer perspective I want my google results to best reflect what I am looking for. If google has to delist fraudulent web sites to improve my search results, then they are just doing a good job.
The issue is not really how many Amps, it is how much power (watts) or energy (watt/hours etc)? And how is this power/energy derived? Living things take in power, mainly from the Sun, and convert it into latent energy in the form of sugars and oils. Currently we tap that latent enery by burning it. If we extract the energy before it gets to sugars and oils the tree will stop growing (at best) or die.
My uninformed guess would be that work focussing on improving phto-voltaic conversion would be more prodtive and save the trees etc. for transport fuels. Oils work will in transportable tanks, electricity does not.
Obviously you know more about Atos Origin than I can find. The article refers to UNIX servers and looking at systems vacancies at Atos Origin, they are looking for lots of UNIX systems admins. And from a press blurb about the last olympic games "We're putting together an architecture that's quite big for a short period, but that's how it works. We have around 10,000 desktops, 500 laptops, 400 Unix servers, plus another 450 Windows servers."
I get the impression that the typical olympics IT infrastructure selection is based on business requirements.
The article is bollocks. The report correctly identifies Email as critical to the success of any desktop OS. It does not say that lack of an email app in Linux is a problem.
The top inhibiters are listed as Desktop Applications such as VPN, Photoshop, Pagemaker etc. No mention of Email.
Logically one would be incredibly stupid to rely on an anti-virus product from the same vendor as the OS, particularly when that vendor has so frequently identified issues reported to them as not critical or not a bug and then they are shown months later to be critical. However I have no doubt that the average Joe Public will embrace this new product. Particularly when PC builders and suppliers have to pre-load it to maintain their discounts on Microsoft products.

A Flu Pandemic?

You do know that the pandemic would be caused by a bird flu strain that has mutated to transmit between humans, don'y you.....
Interesting, and potentially humerous, comment in a local news paper here recently... "Bird Flu will likely arrive in New Zealand via aircraft".
"Stockpiling something like Tamiflu might help." - for sure. Building a sealed bunker out of tamiflu pills or whatever might help. Like many other possible suggestions, it MIGHT work. Until mutation happens we don't have much firm idea of what will deal to it.
BTW, something that does concern me a little. The article refers to several countries booking advance supplies of vaccines, once they are developed, presumable for an advance/insurance fee. But the US has not done that. If a pandemic does occur, and the vaccines do become available in limited quantities, will the countries that have booked supplies get them first while the US patiently waits for later supplies to become available, if ever?
Most practical suggestion there is wear gloves/wash hands. They make the point that the virus will likely be able to transmit by hand contact from an infected mask.
However, until it does actually mutate, we don't know how it will be effectively transmitted.

Sounds like the probable production releases of Vista, after they remove all the performance issues.
