The interference that BPL (Broadband over Power Lines) causes to the high frequency radio spectrum is more than simply a slight annoyance to amateur radio operators. It totally destroys abilities to use HF frequencies that are vital to long distance communications. Amateur radio operators put alot of time, effort, and money into their hobby, and when something like this comes along, that can cripple them, who can blame them for fighting against it?
See arrl.org for more info on BPL. The Rochester Amateur Radio Club also has Posted some good info on BPL. Or just google "BPL Amateur Radio".
I've always heard about ham radio use during emergencies, but I've long wondered, what does ham radio do during the rest of the time. If someone could explain the principles of ham radio, and perhaps give some examples, I'd be quite grateful.
I'm sneaking on to/. from a school computer lab, while I'm supposed to be doing research, that comment made me laugh so hard (heh, heh - hard) that the teacher came over and gave me administrative detention for visiting an "inappropriate website". Thanks! (Mighty Funny Though)
All I'm getting is Internal Server Errors. Can it be slashdotted already? Darn, and I was looking forward to finding a recipe for "Peanut Butter, Jelly, and Bread", I just don't know what to do with them!
I run the bull. board at a local public access tv station that airs whenever we dont have any programming (quite often) and it's basically a powerpoint pres. running off a win 2k machine. I happened to turn on the tv one day after the netadmin had made some changes to the network, and saw 3 popups over top of the bull. board. This was 3 am, so i had to wait until the next day to go in and fix it, but the boss wasn't too happy with me.
I've had speakeasy for 1 year in January, and I'm in love. I've only had one period of no dsl, and it turned out to be Verizon's fault (some moron cut a cable somewhere). I think my favorite feature is the hold-o-meter thingy they have in MySpeakeasy It's come in hande both times I've had to call.
I discovered this a few months ago when I attached a cd to a cordless dremel tool (I was really bored) and put it on the higest possible setting (25,000 rpm) and the cd exploded after a few seconds. Really startled my cat, and I'm still picking little pieces of cd out of the most random things in my room.
I'm a Fairfax County Public Schools Student, and we used those big (vinyl-sized) video discs in Elementary and Middle school. We've been using them for at least 7 years.
I agree with an earlier post to post his info wherever possible, but take it a little further, post his e-mail on as many spam lists as possible. Just piss him off!

What ever happened to the good old days, when all high schoolers did was smoke pot and play video games?

Well, actually, there was a slashdot story a few months ago about just that - Apple Secretly Maintaining x86 Port Of Mac OS X
Code Of Virginia: SB 1139 HB 2290
What makes the whole repeat-ness of this story even worse is that there is a vote about it up right now!

I think there's a special floppy ISO for a network install.
I love my Speakeasy!
(To the tune of "I want my MTV")
I suppose I should get my Anti-MPAA/RIAA Stickers now then.

Linuxconf isn't installed by default in 7.2 - but you can manually add it to the installation.

That theme music was just horrible. I like the opening video, but not the audio. They need a new music guy
