I STRONGLY disagree. I have had the same experience in both music, and IT. One can love the art, but begin to hate the bureaucracy that turns it into a viable money-making business. The pettiness in my department drove me away from my music major. Now that I am working IT, its kinda the same way. I even bought a few console systems so I could play games without having to figure out all the damn system crap. It's not that I can't. It's just that I don't want to. And it's not that I don't ever touch a pc at home. Sometimes I do, but the brilliance of those moments is that I don't have to.
Let's not be hasty. True, I love Firefox, but IE is a giant honey pot out there for malicious attackers. If too many people switch, they'll start targeting Firefox. As much as I hate to admit it, they WILL find flaws to target.

No offense, but I think you're jumping the gun here. Who said anything about taking away every other form of ID? Picture a laminated social security card with the same layout nationwide and a picture of the cardholder. That's what I'm talking about. There doesn't have to be any Tolkien/Orwell/Wachowskiesque computer overlord.
I don't think that a nat'l ID is such a bad thing. Most people already carry multiple forms of ID anyway. A standard would make it easier. Case in point, my friend doesn't have a driver's license, and many bars have turned down his state issue alternative, becuase it's not familiar.
The key element is with how it's used. I don't want to have to swipe my RFID ID to use the pisser at the mall. There needs to be rules about how and when an ID can be required.

Does any American truly believe it when they accuse someone of siding with the terrorists? The idea is simply asanine, yet when two people disagree on even the most minor point, I guarantee that at least half of the time, someone will point and accuse the other of siding with the terrorists. Especially if they are unable to argue their stance effectively. It's absurd! Why aren't we slapping people silly for even suggesting the idea?
I'm sure I've used my ears to illegally listen to copyrighted material at least once. Perhaps they should be seeking to ban ears and suing my parents for.. umm.. "making" them?

If nothing else, look at the olympics. Every 4 (2) years is a bit too often to get me excited about it, so my video rental expenses skyrocket during these times.
I agree. Just as a hotplate can malfunction and damage the University's property, so can a malfunctioning WiFi device. I once had a packet loss problem on my network and traced it to a user's wireless router. He was only using it as a wired switch for his laptop, but the wireless ability was not turned off, and there were no antennaes connected. On top of that the device was configured to work as a DHCP server as well. You can imagine the havoc that thing caused.

Starting with XPSP2 IE went from mildly annoying to completely useless to me. I certainly hope FF doesn't follow suit.
