Destruction of public property, impeding the flow of traffic, forgery, and the theft of a rug would not be considered pranks. There is nothing subversive nor ironic about any of those things. It sounds more like high school kids in a hick town behaving as drunks. Realy pranks have a value of humor or irony to them and cause no harm nor damage.
The funniest thing is seen these LAN kids walking around with 120 space CD cases. They will come over to while you are in the middle of a tournament and start thumbing through your CDs and then ask, "Hey, can I copy this? We can trade if you want."
The stuff they have is never tested or used and really isn't current. Ask them for a new driver or something useful and you'll get blank stares or handed a copy of the drivers that came with daddy's desktop. Ask them for some obscure copy of some unreleased version of MS-DOS and they are your man.
It is not the plain advertisement that gets most people, it is is the theft of service. It is the tactics of stealing the addresses of those that post on message boards and newsgroups. Slashdot is not immune as I have received 3 spams emails in as many days to the address I use for posting here. Do you supprt tha ability of someone to force you to spend time and money to receive the piece when they, in *no* way, support the medium? If they want to advertise, then let them do so in TV, radio, or print since that would support those services. Junk mail from the postal service remains inexpensive because of the bulk mailers that pay for the services. Until the medium is supported, I will combat spam with everything I have an take it to any means necessary.
Obviously it is hard to carry around cash, wallets, etc in the water park. Now you can get a wristband with a barcode that gets associated with a credit card. Then you just get the armband scanned for your food/gift purchases. They will only scan intact bands and if you notice that your band is missing (it should not be too difficult) then go to the closest register and they can cancel the barcode immediately.
>They do search bags currently. ALL bags, even diaper bags.
Maybe, but not very well. For the past three of the four times I have been there since Sept 11 (my girlfriend and I have season passes) I was able to walk around the security stands without even being noticed. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out why they search the bags, yet do nothing to search the person. A couple of shootings at Disney would demoralize the US more than shootings pretty much anywhere else. An entire AK-47 can be broken down into pieces that fit in a pants leg or under a large sweatshirt. Everything of destructive power that is carried in a bag can be carried on one's person. Thay are pretty clueless about technology anyway. I often take in my nightvision scope (a lot of neat things to see in Space Mountain, Spaceship Earth, and Pirates of the Caribean) and didn't even get a second look yet they made me disassemble my Camelbak water pouch. I don't know if they would stop a laptop or not. One can claim it is for download pictures or showing Disney DVDs to the kids at dinner when they get tired and cranky.
I went to see Episode I looking for several things:
- Cool special effects
- A decently entertaining script
- A great light sabre battle at the end
If you are interested in some (in some case) really professional looking duals and effects, then I recommend checking out http://theforce.net/theater/ It is a collection of films and some are quite good.
While the flying rock isn't going to be able to do turns like a plane, what witnessses would likely see, and this is a guess, may be a snaking smoke trail. As a skydiver, I have been hit with varying air speeds someimes going different directions. The smoke given off from the object buring off through friction could then catch seperate drafts. With the area being Siberia and all, I would suspect the air to be quite clear, especially during winter, and the trail to be able to be seen for quite a distance. Watch the shuttle launch sometime and notice how after about 5 minutes the smoke trail is still visable except that it has drifted for a fair way.
From what I have seen from the license requirements of W2K, it DOES stipulate that significant hardware (e.g. hard drive or motherboards) must be purchased, but for some reason the new XPOS does not require any specific pice of hardware. I am only reporting what I found on the web sites that list this method. At first glance it appears as a legitimate workaround for full retail pricing. If there is anything conclusive to the contrary, then please let me know as I am not going to knowingly obtain this using illicit methods.
If, for whatever reason, you decide to get the new Windows OS, don't waste money in purchasing it at the retail store. Even the professional 'upgrade' from previous versions costs 199$ across the board, however if you buy the OEM edition with some hardware, then it can be had for about 136$. There are several sites (easily found through www.pricewatch.com) that will sell something like a 1.50 power cord with it to meet the hardware requirement.
What you do is use slashdot to your advantage. Instead of sending an email tell him to "go read this article" you should work it to you distinct advantage. In this case you should talk to your boss and say "You know, I was thinking that our router might not be secure. In my efforts to help the company, I have done a little research (carbon copy info from article here) and have some comments about it (carbon copy posted comments of Score:4 or higher). It won't be long before you are giving a bigger paycheck because you are the only one coming up with all this incredible information on a daily basis. Trust me...it works.
I think that is exactly what they are trying to prevent. When all this is over, will the investigation find that the anthrax spores were stolen from a lab by some scientist with a grudge or for money? With the current crisis, I am willing to forgo some privileges rather than argue every step of the way.
>Also, since it's civilian, the military will not have a "Selective Availability" feature.
Want to bet? It would not take long before the military would claim "and rightly so" that this kind of ability be added in the interest of national security. If you claim it is sto be so accurate, then why have different levels?
How about another idea. When files like LOTR trailers, Counter-strike updates,, or new Quake engine game tests are released, the few mirrors (usually just fileplanet) are bogged down to almost nothing. If you somehow are able to get the file early, then post it to a binary newsgroup and then post on the forums where it is located. There can be no better mirror than a local server...your news server! I did this for the HL and CS updates recently and got a ton of thank you replies. I tried to get it from fileplanet before I found a small mirror elsewhere and started at like 650 in line with 80 minutes to *start* the download.
That is BS. By even proping systems or exploiting vunerabilities hackers/crackers/whatever cause untold millions of dollars in damages and lost wages.
They not only steal information, but also deny others the right to do business and cause a need for shift in resources to protect the company rather than producive service.
Joe Kittinger made the highest intentional skydive in history when in 1960 he jumped out of a balloon at 103,000 ft., and is the only person to have broken the sound barrier with his body alone.
While sitting in your warm bedroom or at your cool office saying how great it was that he was arrested so that the law can be challenged in court, Dmitri is most likely sitting in a one room cell with little but a cot, metal toilet, and TV down the hall. His family is most likely sick with worry since they realize that there is little to nothing that they can do.
Any time an American (born or recent addition) is imprisoned for a crime in some foreign, there is often a public (US) outcry. In the Spring of 1994, an 18-year-old Michael Fay, was caned in Singapore for spray painting cars. Many in the United States expressed outrage at the primitive brutality of the punishment. Even President Clinton expressed his dismay and criticized the punishment as cruel and close to barbarism and torture.
I really doubt Dmitri is glad to play a small part at the legal challenge of the DMCA. If you were in that position, your lawyer would most likely suggest (and you would accept) that if you can be quietly get let off with time served and a small fine that you accept it. If my lawyer were to suggest, 'we're going to fight this until your bitter end', then I'll be asking for new representation.
Poor Dmitri is being used as a pawn by both sides. Corporate America is using him to scare the programming community into submission (i.e. you're next) and the community is using him to strike down a law.
The hide behind clause will most likely be the one that says 'you may not run a server in connection with the @Home residential service'. http://home.com/support/aup/

All the thief has to do is steal a tow truck, repaint it, and then bang the hell out of it so that it looks really used.

No, it is not flattery, it is plagiarism.

That is an terrible thing to say to a diver.

I bet you will get the titanium pricing though!

As a sidenote, shouldn't there be a way for the ground control to override the controls of a hijacked plane?
Than all you need is a terrorist cell to overrun that site and bring down every plane in range.
It isn't the organization that wants hundreds of bombs that scares me..it is the group that just wants one.

Slashdot got slashdoted!
Seems fitting after the hundred of other sits that got temp killed due to slashdot stories.
