I've been personally boycotting EB/Gamestop. While I do think it is unfair to the publishers that they sell used games, that's not the reason. My reason is that it is nearly impossible to find a new copy of the game you're looking for. I shouldn't need a store employee, a map, and a member of the K-9 unit to find a new copy of a game released three weeks ago.
If MS does indeed ship a console with HDDVD or BluRay later, isn't Sony already kind of guaranteeing that BluRay will be the nextgen format of choice? So if MS later includes a BluRay drive in the 360.. Will they indirectly be paying Sony to use the BluRay technology in the 360?
How do they intend to make it IE-only? Other than ActiveX or some freaky javascript, I fail to see how you could make a website IE-only. Code to standards, and it should work in any browser. I'm not sure why you even have to tell them it's standards compliant. Stick to standards, develop with whatever browser you want, and deliver.
My google-fu isn't bad, but I sometimes have trouble finding relevant results. I figure adding 9 billion more possible results should complicate things quite nicely.
they do support 3d in linux.. but those cards just don't push pixels like the competition.. matrox is great for 2d.. and depending on your needs.. "Good Enough" for 3d
Can I legally download music that I already own? For example I own the song in one of record, tape,CD, and if so, may I legally download a version of this song from a P2P network or some other source. I have never been able to get a real good answer from anyone regarding this. I own hundreds of tapes and a decent number of vinyl recordings. Haven't I already obtained my fair use rights by purchasing the album in one of those formats? Why should I, as a consumer, be forced to pay again for something I already own, if all I want is to be able to listen to it on my computer. And if not, could the industry somehow be persuaded to allow me to "trade in" my older copy with credit towards a CD of the same album? I feel it's kind of rediculous to pay full price for the same album in vinyl, tape, and CD(and whatever the next medium is), especially when I have boxes of cassettes/records/CDs.
They seem to imply it is a proposal to drop the actual releasing after sarge.. They will still have support for the other architectures, but seem to imply it must meet certain criteria to be considered for release.
IMHO: requiring a level of 98% is too high and only releasing if you can still buy is rediculous. Debian still mostly compiles for 386(on x86) and it's hard to buy a 386 these days.
There were sonmething like 8 or 10 this week. Every "Patch Tuesday" there is at least one IIRC.
And of course Win2k3 has fewer, they include the total sum of all apps in RH,etc when they do those totals. Win2k3 comes with what?.. They need some kind of full comparison, such as Win2k/Office/Websphere,etc against a comprable linux system.
Why doesn't Microsoft incorporate other OSS software into Windows, such as say Firefox or some of the other software listed at http://www.theopencd.org/?
Does Microsoft feel that Linux has any place at all in the IT industry? If so, where?
This reminds me of when I had to get my windshield replaced. Call for an estimate, and tell them it's through my insurance company and they give me a price. Call back again later, don't mention insurance company, half the price. And since either way it was under my deductable, it really didn't matter all that much.
Take them to work with you for a day.. I think i almost creamed my pants the first time i walked into a data center. Show them what it's like to be a developer or admin or network guru. Explain there is more to computers than games and IM. It would decently cool if it was the day of a meeting.. Let the kid sit in.. Yes.. I know meetings suck.. But most of us have to do them in the real world. And sometimes they are interesting. Show them around, what you do, what makes your job interesting/mundane.

I'm not sure if windows would freak out or not, but couldn't you just remove the usb mass storage driver from the system?
It's about time our elected officials started paying taxes.

This explains some of what is going on with debian. Sarge(when released) will not have X.org packages.
