Unfortunately, quality games like Ico and 'Mark of Kri' sell very poorly, while crap like 'State of Emergency' sells boatloads. It's to the game publisher's advantage to ignore the gameplay, and focus on the marketing.

Because you're not giving one person your CD, you're giving it to thousands of people. It's the same reason they care more about mp3s than they do about cassette copies. Once you make an mp3, copying it is trivial. Making a second cassette copy takes almost as much effort as the first one.
Wasn't there a Science Fiction story in which a major plot element was a large hunk of chicken flesh grown to feed a community? Anyone else remember this, or is it a product of my imagination?
