If Sting can sue or demand royalties when an R&B group uses his sound as part of a song, then Apple deserves the same rights over Aqua.
Except they can't. They sued in the past over "look and feel" and lost. The courts have ruled that trade dress is not something that deserves protection. This is just bullying on Apple's part, and it's working.
It really makes me cringe when a distro ships with stuff like lpd, ftpd, and the r-services turned on by default, especially when it's a distro aimed at novice users. Please tell me they've wisened up in 7.1?
Then use this page to compare OSes. Notice that the total number of security holes in all Linux distributions is less than that of Windows NT and 95/98, and that the number in any given distribution of Linux is far less than that of Windows NT.
If he can't stand DAT (he must not treat his deck well...), Minidisc is the next best thing, as far as sound quality goes. I wouldn't trust the DAC/ADC on an MP3 recorder, and I doubt the sound would come close to MD (let alone DAT).
So, should I drop my DSL line or my cable modem for this?:)

If all they're doing is tracking aggregate hits to websites, I can see how this might be a bit of a privacy issue, but how does it affect the right to free speech?
...where the hell is the X1 on the Sun online store? Or am I gonna have to bid for one of these things against dozens of other rabid "must have now!" geeks? (I'd like to replace my Sparc 5/170 with something made this century...)
Er, nobody ever said you had to back up everything.
I have 30 gigs on this machine alone, but I manage to fit everything that's important onto a single 15 gig DLT tape (and a few unimportant partitions because they'll fit.)
Use some common sense; not all 80 gigs are worth backing up.
Even the $1700 dollar model. I think a typical Gigabit card costs about half that.
Gigabit ethernet cards are $399 on pricewatch, and I'm sure gigabit ethernet chips, when bought in bulk, are probably about $30 or so, if that. The logic itself costs next to nothing, that's why ultra160 on a motherboard adds barely anything to the price of the board, whereas a U160 SCSI card from Adaptec will set you back $300.

You could've thrown an "Oh, and Microsoft sucks, too!" in there for good measure.
