More to the point, was Melinda French a direct subordinate of Bill Gates?...she was the "unit manager"...for several Microsoft products (Publisher, Bob, Encarta, and Expedia).
I'd like to think that the unit manager of Encarta did not report directly to the CEO.
Oh, horseshit. The Democrats could shut the government down, like the Republicans did over minor tax squabbles in the 1990s. They can - and should - say, "We will not pass any funding for the military, for foreign intelligence, or federal law enforcement, until we see reforms."
Sometimes I lay awake at night dreaming of that scenario. Sigh. Good show. Wish I had mod points.
Brute force didn't work for the Cahtolic Church; why should it work for us?
Interesting that you bring up the Catholic Church, since it accepts evolution as fact. And this from a group generally thought of as very conservative.
By forcing religion upon everyone, you mean the Environmental Earth worshipping Wackos who are foisting the idea of Global Warming, right?
Here's another one you'll love: By forcing religion upon everyone, you mean the Pagans and Pro-Homosexual Secular Humanists who are foisting the idea of Evolution, right?
Taken a look in the mirror lately--if you can spare the time to take your head out of the sand?
I make less than I did 10 years ago and my cost of living is at least twice as much and the skill and experience required is far far more than what was required 10 years ago. My experience is that most companies these days are rather cheap when it comes to paying their geeks. I didn't even go for the high paying job offers I had back then - if I had, then I would have been making 6 or 7 times what I'm making now.
It looks like, rather than companies being cheap, you just made some bad career moves since, by your own admission, companies are willing to pay "6 or 7 times" what you're making now.
Time filters out crap. In a decade or two, people will forget the crap of the current era and focus on the good stuff. Happens all the time. People loving music from the seventies don't know or conveniently forget all the crap that was produced back then. That's a good thing, though, because who wants to remember the crap?
Except that Senator Dodd doesn't want you to have a gun. Neither do most in his party.
Blah, blah, blah, whine, whine, whine. Guess what? Even if Sen. Dodd is elected President and he decides that eliminating guns is his #1 priority (and it's not but bear with me for a second), it's never going to happen. Why? Because that (IMHO) dumbass 2nd Amendment and the NRA isn't going to let it happen. I'm happy for you that you've found your true love in your gun collection but you and Ted Nugent appear to be fooled into believing that that is the only issue to vote on. Nobody is going to take your precious guns away...that's the reality...so take off your blinders and look at the bigger picture for a change.
Remain ever vigilant and all that but, really, get past it.
The difference is that people derive an ethical framework from belief in God...
The Golden Rule was around for centuries before Jesus Christ was born, thank you very much. People can derive an ethical framework from a belief in God, it's just not a requirement.
On an electoral point of view, what's Hilary stance on this this bill?
It almost doesn't matter, since she (and the rest) didn't have the conviction to place a hold on it herself. Kinda like Iraq, she talks and talks but what has she actually done about it?
Ah, remember the good ol' days, when complaining about the US government was usually about high taxes or corruption and not about the finer points of what constitutes torture?
People don't like that 200 or so Jihadis are being held in Gitmo without a trial. Yeah, I get it. It still pales in significant to the prison factory archipelago that is being run in China.
I know I'm an idealist but I really don't like the "Yeah, we're committing acts of evil but they're not as evil as China," argument. I like the bar set a bit higher.
While I don't care for them, I would argue that U2 has that stature. Probably Madonna, too. Metallica would but they haven't released a decent album in 16 years.
But there have been no more terrorist attacks on the US during that time.
There haven't been any fatal ocelot attacks in the US since we invaded Iraq, too.
The most accurate approximation, done by the Iraq Body Count project, is only around 80,000.
Only 80,000? Then you probably describe the almost 3,000 dead on 9/11 as "piddling", right?
Statistics on civilian deaths in Iraq are hard to come by because we, conveniently, don't keep track of them.
Completely disregarding what the Bible says (which is the moral guidance for a -lot- of people)...
Hey, if disregarding the bible is good enough for the President, it is good enough for the rest of us!
I would love to see Dennis Kucinich vs. Ron Paul. Wow, an election that would actually be interesting.
How is it that Dick Cheney has time to post to Slashdot during working hours? Shouldn't you be biting the heads off small birds?
I believe this is an improvement of the original fake with a better set and special effects. I can't get over how well this was filmed.
Funny thing is, if it actually was a product of Hollywood it would look a lot better...and have explosions.
More to the point, was Melinda French a direct subordinate of Bill Gates?...she was the "unit manager"...for several Microsoft products (Publisher, Bob, Encarta, and Expedia).
I'd like to think that the unit manager of Encarta did not report directly to the CEO.
And yet, Paris Hilton, who has been convicted and served time in jail, somehow is in Toronto right now filming a movie?
I'm a bit worried that you know what Paris Hilton is doing right now.
Oh, horseshit. The Democrats could shut the government down, like the Republicans did over minor tax squabbles in the 1990s. They can - and should - say, "We will not pass any funding for the military, for foreign intelligence, or federal law enforcement, until we see reforms."

Because the government shrunk way down with Bush in the White House and Republicans controlling Congress. What color is the sky in your world?

Prior to Christianity, the world believed in conquest without justification.
I'd like to direct you to the not-too-ancient concept of Manifest Destiny.

I'd rather not...which is kinda the point.

So if the US is not quite as evil as China, that's okay?
I don't want to start a holy war here, but what is the deal with you Vista fanatics?
I knew you were putting us on when I saw "Vista fantatics". Might as well have said "Martians".
Please, sir, point me to the songs Zep ripped off to make "Achilles Last Stand"? I'd really like to hear them so they can inspire me, too.
While I don't care for them, I would argue that U2 has that stature. Probably Madonna, too. Metallica would but they haven't released a decent album in 16 years.
