I take that she and you haven't been able to use a TiVo-enabled system.
Um, I don't live at home (and haven't for over 20 years), for starters. If my mom thinks VCR+ isn't easy enough, why would I want to suggest a TiVo to her?

Like most businesses, they listen to only one thing: their bottom line.
Exactly. A few months ago my mother was telling me that someone could get rich by making VCR programming easier (VCR+ is too complicated for her). I tried to explain the "invent a better idiot" rule but that didn't go over so well. Then I asked her how many VCRs were in her house. Four (holy crap!). Then I told her that there was no incentive to make VCR programming easier because it's easy enough to put four in her house. Same thing with computers and software. Why is Windows crap? Because it can be--the proof is in how much Microsoft sells. Why is Mac OS X the best OS around? Because it has to be. Apple can't get away with selling crap like Microsoft can.
You let her be exposed to Disney so she will buy their crap, but you don't let he watch a show that helps her learn.
You, obviously, have watched neither Barney nor The Disney Channel. I'll give my children Disney and their commercials over the insipid so-called "learning" of Barney in a heartbeat. They'll turn out just fine, thank you very much.
For that matter, even here in California you'd have a hard time hiring 100 programmers in Fresno...
It's a chicken-and-egg situation. You can't find that many programmers in Fresno because there are no programming jobs in Fresno (well, none that I want). That and if you actually find a job there, you're stuck with it because it's the only programming job that's come up in a long time so if you need to look for work elsewhere (say, because Catbert is now head of HR), guess what? Time to move because there aren't programming jobs in Fresno.
The best way to learn is to read them. If you are at a company where it's possible for you to read the incoming resumes, do it. At a previous company we would have resume reading parties where a bunch of us techie types and our managers would go through the hundreds of resumes we would receive. When you have that much to go through, you learn to how skim. You can then use that knowledge to help your own resume- and cover letter-writing.
The 1 large strike that traditional hand drawn animation has against it is that it is more time consuming and expensive to do hand drawn today than computer generated. Ultimately this is what will kill it.
Not true. We made Beauty and the Beast with a lot fewer people than are even working there now. Disney bloated itself once the success of the ninties hit. They can make movies cheaper if they want to.
The traditional side of Disney has never really succeeded in finding that balance between entertaining the kids and entertaining adults.
Somebody modded this as insightful? The Lion King grossed over $300 million. Beauty and the Beast was nominated for a Best Picture Oscar (not Best Animated Picture--Best Picture). An animated movie could not do either without striking that balance.
As for the South Park movie being "one of the biggest...hits", unless it grossed over $100 million (it didn't), it's not even in the ballpark.
The reactor was engineered to survive a launch failure intact. The risk had been mitigated to acceptable levels.
Acceptable to you, perhaps. Remember that chunk o' foam from the Columbia? Couldn't possibly have enough energy to unacceptably damage the wing, right? To some the risk was acceptable (just wear their helmets, right?). Others disagreed.
A few years back, I remember there being some amazingly loud protests from some anti-nuclear power folks about the dangers of a deep space probe going up with a nuclear power source. Those folks were worried about the danger...
Why? We all know space travel has been perfected and is 100% safe. Cough-Challenger-cough...COUGH-Columbia-cough.
Before AAC I was ripping my CD's to 256 VBR MP3, which was as close to CD quality as I needed for most of my music (electronic, prog rock, jazz and some classical) but since AAC I'm getting awesome results at 192.
That's interesting because recently I did my own listening tests and decided that 256 VBR MP3 was what I wanted to go with, beating out AAC. Just goes to show that everybody's different.
They're teaming up with DirecTV but Comcast, for example, is not teaming up with TiVO. Since they're the largest cable operator in the US, it's a big deal.
I was at a talk Ben Burtt gave several years ago and he showed us how a bullet ricochet sound effect originated in The Lives of a Bengal Lancer and kept getting used in different movies over the decades, picking up wow & flutter along the way (you'd recognize it if you heard it). I guess it's a sound-guy thing (or maybe it's a Ben Burtt thing).
Curious George now lives in the White House.

No it isn't. The only 2D animation being done at Disney is the occasional short and TV Animation. 2D at Feature Animation is toast. Just ask Roy.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you The Lion King 1 1/2. No fooling.
Wrong. In fact, Disney is working on "Toy Story 3", not Pixar.

No, it does not. A DBA is you, basically. If someone sues your DBA, they're suing you personally.
Why does Forbes need Ford's permission to run a picture of the Bronco II?

I still have my original Sony Discman D-50 from 1985 (link to Japanese page. It definitely isn't the smallest.
That's hooked up at my house.

The point is (since it has to be explained to you) that the protesters will have a point. How much risk is too much for you, daredevil?

Can't find WMD or Osama here on Earth, might as well try the Moon or Mars. Mmm, shiny...
Most the jobs I get interviews through Monster or other listings they say I am over qualified for. Imagine that.
Good thing grammar doesn't count, eh?
Don't you guys remember back in 1999 when the moon blasted out of earth's orbit? That would probably explain the change.
