  1. Re:Interviewing Programmers 101 on How Should You Interview a Programmer? · · Score: 1

In previous Slashdot threads we have learned that it's not wise to sit programmers down with a pen and paper and get them to write C code on the fly!

Oh, I don't know. I've weeded out quite a few 'experienced' C programmers by asking them to sort an array of strings. Obviously that doesn't prove someone is a great programmer but it sure whittles things down quickly (which is sad but true).

I'm making it more enjoyable for myself. There's nothing wrong with that, and there's no reason for you or any artist to come into my home and tell me any different.

Fine, just don't go selling copies of it while calling it "Leonardo DaVinci's Mona Lisa".

In the context of the post I first replied to, it is all about being a threat to Office:

It would also allow Apple to tell MS to shove that carrot they dangle over Apple where the sun don't shine.

For Apple to do that to Microsoft, OpenOffice has to be a threat to Office and it just is not. IMHO it's not even a threat to AppleWorks but that's just me.

Reality check time: OpenOffice is not a threat to Microsoft Office. It might be nice to think that it is and in the distant future it might be but as of right now, no way. Besides, I'm happy with that other alternative to Office: AppleWorks. Okay, it's not a package-by-package alternative but my needs are fairly simple and it gets the job done (except for AutoCalculate).

In short, there are significant benefits to be with this process on all sides even before the question of "24 vs 48 fps" is raised.

What is the benefit to the studios? Their film printing costs, which are considerable, would double with no increase in business to offset those costs (safe assumption). Distribution is the big appeal of digital for the studios.

Plus, there's nothing saying that digital won't mean 48- or 60-fps (or more) movies down the road. Once the hardware comes up to speed, look for that in a few years.

Using these resources physicans are mostly right most of the time. It is unreasonable to expect more than that.

Using that reasoning, you would be happy with a 60%* rate of success, yes? Sorry but it is perfectly reasonable to expect doctors use whatever tool is available to try and achieve 100% success. Unattainable? Perhaps but I demand that they try. If this tool gets them closer to that 100%, there is no reason it should not be used. You may be happy with 60% but I am not and doctors should not, either.
