But it says mandatory use of Open Source software not of non-Linux platforms no? As long as MS, Apple and other vendors open the source to the government I assume they'll be fine. I know I'm daydreaming but when it comes to government the more transparent it is the better and that includes software -IMO.

done in a Mexican university a couple of years ago and the main issue was security. At that time (~1996) the only option was using CGIs. I tell you getting RPCs to communicate and have it all in a secure manner was not an easy task.

On the good side students really liked the fact that they could check their grades online and faculty members were happy that they could use the web to upload their grades (or type them) in the browser and they would get all sorts of stats generated instantly.

  9. I say encript on IBM Researcher Offers an E-Stamp Spam Solution · · Score: 1, Interesting

all incoming & outgoing mail and if the mail you receive is not encripted then send it to /dev/null. If someone has to contact you then they can get your key from a website.

So even if spammers got your key they would have to go through the process encrypting the email which is more time consuming and would probably result in less spam sent each day.

But then they could buy more expensive machines and we would end up at square one!

    Ah forget what I said!

I think it might be dangerous if you just have automatic updates... specially if you have modified software (like special config file) & multiple machines to update.

If you mass update and then something breaks? I rather test everything in a box and then spread the update.

    Mis 2 centavos.
