what type of tools should parents be equipping their children with, today?
Pencils, pens, paper. Printed books--good, old, classic books. They'll learn computers and all that--you can hardly do anything these days without using one. What they need are the basic skills they won't get through computers, and that is accomplished through reading good ol' books and writing.
Worse, fundamentalists actively seek to ignore higher-level representations. Intelligent Design is about the appearance of adopting scientific thought while actively attempting to shut it down.
So as you attack "fundamentalists" for "ignor[ing] higher-level representations," you make a completely wrong generalization about Intelligent Design. I don't know any ID people who are attempting to "shut down [scientific thought]." Sounds like you have an extremely simplistic understanding of ID to me, if you can call that an "understanding." Wait. Or maybe you are a fundamentalist who attacks other fundamentalists for their simplistic reasoning, using simplistic reasoning. Then this would make more sense.
So I guess if your site has been delisted, all you have to do is remove it, email Google, and watch it be re-listed. Right? More likely, if you are anyone other than a Fortune 500 company, you're email will never be answered. Or unless you pay some cash.
developers will still have to pay an unspecified amount for the code
That means it's either free, or will cost trillions of dollars. I vote for the latter.
DEVELOPER: I'd like to purchase your code, please. MS: Sure, no problem! Sign here. DEV: Wait, how much is this again? MS: It's an unspecified amount. DEV: Oh, okay, that's right. Here is my signature. My company will foot the bill. MS: We will send the bill soon--it will take a few weeks to finish printing. Very good doing business with you, sir. You are an intelligent man. We are a small company.
We've been lied to horribly for the last 3-4 years. Clock for clock intels are as powerful as PowerPC.
What are you talking about? These are not old Intel chips, they are new. These chips didn't exist before. So what were you lied about? The PPC chips were faster (in some ways) than the Intel chips available before. They did the benchmarks and you can look it up.
So instead of having the opportunity to buy it, they will pirate it. Doesn't seem very effective. If they would let them buy it, they would also have records of people who have bought it.
Sit them down. Tell them their time limits. They can budget their time accordingly. If they don't, they should be disciplined. They need to learn how to budget their time, and discipline themselves. Don't impose technical solutions to moral/character issues. This is a great opportunity to help your children become more mature!
It doesn't "install itself" -- on the Mac, you have to install it by running their enhanced software. On Windows, it installs itself when you put the disc into the drive.
Not that I'm defending them, but they chose their words purposefully, and they meant what they said.
This seems like an appropriate thread for a Neil Postman quote:
The whole problem with news on television comes down to this: all the words uttered in an hour of news coverage could be printed on a page of a newspaper. And the world cannot be understood in one page.
Since there is usually a ~40% margin of error in polls, we'll say that 90% of blogs are used as a form of therapy...and that explains about 90% of blogs!
I think we should start calling Microsoft Windows "MS-Windows-Gates-Ballmer-Every-Programmer-Name-Et c" as that would be more accurate, and give people more credit. All journalists should be encouraged to use this 10 page long name when possible.

Do you think it's just Apple doing this? It's what our entire culture is based on!

So you want everyday people to be able to freely edit it, but not politicians?

Yes! Another open-source copy of a commercial app!
No, it just happens to be an itemized listing... of how much each line of code costs.

Can Tech Save Small Town America?
The real question is, can we keep technology from ruining small towns... You can't save something with one of the problems.
They just downloaded the torrent and were able to watch it.

Wow, that page came up pretty fast. I guess their web server is built for performance instead of dependability.
Duh, it's because they can't afford a Mac.
It pays to celebrate our overlords.
In other news, you can how use a DOS command prompt as your window manager on your Mac! Who needs multi-tasking and fancy graphics anyway?

Guess anything that can be programmed is also vulnerable, regardless of how impenetrable it is.
I guess anything that can be built can be broken, regardless of how unbreakable it is.
but there's no money to be made in doing this in towns (large and small) and rural areas.
Do you think there is money to made at all when they are not charging?
Meanwhile, gun manufacturers have reported receiving mail requesting them to stop encouraging people to murder others.
Well, it didn't work for me...
Not that I tried it, of course.
