Did you see that? A 10GHz chip is possible with current technology? Drool...
I remember reading in WIRED (The one with Woz on the cover) that there are some silicon substitutes on the way. Does anyone know more about this/still have the article?
I wonder how the newsgroups will like this?
Does anyone remember the Lawsuit that Toys R Us brought on them? Things are really getting out of hand here!
That is true, you're right. But bear in mind that R7 is a pre-alpa.
From my counter of my webpage, 94% of the people who visit it from Slashdot are using Windows. 4% are using Mac, and 2% Linux. Hmmm....
The wearables movement keeps rocking on. I have a condition which weakens my muscles, making a laptop a bitch for me to carry around. I am drooling in anticipation for my first wearables. Besides those with handicaps of any kind, wearables will be IT for the business traveller. I though, would like one to use during the day for work. Those glasses would be a godsend! BTW, does anyone know if these will work with the new Powerbook with the detachable screen coming out??
Why not encrypt everything and have the courts issue warrants for keys when it is deemed necessary?
Check closer... my personal favorite in there is /iyHJcwuEdByAx1uqJQg5KVt+t2MLt481qk2yjP7 How violent!
You should be jittery. I don't use them. My friend and I once built a scanner to listen to the cordless phones around my apartment complex. Fascinating stuff, and frighteningly easy.
This is why I use GSM.
Neal, are you reading this? I know you're a regular. Could you clear this up for me/us?

Just looked it up. You're right. THANKS!!!
When will the Gov. understand good crypto is easy and most countries now/can have it? Grrrr.... idiots!
Another thought I had. Do any of you think this could make eCommerce more tasty? No taxes make it cheaper, and no records means the IRS has no receipt trail...
Almost looks like a Tender Offer. Will Compaq retain any stock at all?
I finished it like two weeks ago! :-) I couldn't put it down, I did it in 4 days. GREAT book, more engrossing than Snow Crash, as engrossing as Diamond Age.
I love the reverse timeline Stephenson Employs. Cryptonomicon to Snow Crash to Diamond Age.. From 1945 to ~2145(?) - The Crypt is obviously what is referred to when Stephenspon said in "Snowcrash" that strong crypto brought down the old governmental structures. By the way, did anyone else catch that Miss Matheson in Diamond Age was Y.T. from Snow Crash? Or is it just me... Ah well, apparently I'm just rambling, need more coffee
The Cryptonomicon is almost here. Neal, I thought you wrote Science "Fiction". Ever since reading that, I've been getting more and more paranoid with my communications. I applaud these efforts. Oh yeah, gotta be careful with those Crypto exports... (snigger) But what WILL happen when all of our transactions and communications can be encrypted? Interesting question...
I downloaded it this morning. The render speed... my heart... I'm drooling for 5.0
Don't get me wrong, I love flat panels. But my 19 in. .22 pitch CRT looks great! I know flats are the wave of the future, but I think CRT's still have a place. Has anyone ever tried to change the resolution on a Flat Panel? Yeah, right...
No prob, Daniel. As a (except for work) mainly Mac and Linux user, I don't consider myself mainstream, but there's that opinion thing again! :-)
Wow! That IS long term thinking. I mean I do my website partly to remember what I was doing and thinking, but this would by _far_ be superior. But how would one organize millions (literally) of facts?
But, Edward, BeOS isn't designed to be a multiuser technology. From what I've seen in this post, you have not one positive thing to say about Be at all. We've determined this OS is not, nor ever will be, for you. But I design multimedia. While it is also not for me right now, it might be in the future, so I watch it with interest. For servers, hacking, and networking, BeOS sucks. But for someone working with multi-gigabit files, BeOS could be right. Apples are apples and oranges are oranges. There is no need to flame the apples for being what they are.
