Animals are always the guinea pigs (no pun intended). This is an amazing breakthrough. Surely it's not too long before we have prosthetic limbs for people!
And 15 years ago I bought a massive 2GB drive for $350.
Computer stuff gets cheaper over time. There's no reason the same won't be true for SSDs. At some point SSDs will be cheap enough that even if HDD are still 1/100th of the price, SSDs will still win because of all their other advantages.
There's nothing in that list (with the possible exception of "being forced to use a specific technology") that wouldn't apply to just about any worker.
I'm more interested in how many people are using PCs - I couldn't really care less how many new PCs are sold. PCs last longer than they used to. Single-threaded performance isn't increasing anymore and multiple threads aren't being used that much, meaning performance gains are no longer a major reason for upgrades.
Also, a lot of what would have been laptop sales are now tablet sales.
It depends what you do and how you work I guess. For me, two monitors is ideal - IDE maximized on one, and help file / reference emails / IRC windows etc on the other.
Remember though that current 30" monitors have the same horizontal res (2560) as the 27s - only the vertical res is (slightly) higher.
Dell U2711 or similar. 2560x1440 for great number of pixels, and if you want to use a higher DPI you still get a decent amount of information on screen.
I've tried 30" monitors and they were just too big, but for me 2x27" is perfect.
They haven't pushed the OTA upgrade to my Nexus 5 yet.

Nope, it means you were lucky!
Anyone who contributes money to a Kickstarter project deserves what they get.
(And I have been sucked in the past, so I know how easy it is).
Wait until the product is on the shelf, and then buy it. If it's really that great, it will get made.
So you mean you were doing 80mph in a 45mph limit as well?
I'm not sure taking video of that and putting it on youtube is that good an idea.
Having anything placed under my skull in direct contact with my brain sounds a little invasive to me.
Honestly, I really love the Starts With a Bang blog, and have been reading it for years.
But I do have to wonder why every single post is announced on /. these days.
We already have RSS, we subscribe, we know about it. By the time /. has caught up I've already read it, usually 24 hours ago.
Is /. getting a paid for these posts? Inquiring minds want to know.
In communist North Korea, darkness finds you!
Drop your weapons. You have 20 seconds to comply.

...until the total length of video on YouTube is greater than the age of the universe?
I thought we were post-PC! Where are the tablets that are supposedly taking over the world?
Does anyone get the feeling that if Apple was rumoured to be working on a shoe phone, Microsoft would immediately start doing the same?

Are you sure that's the right term? Somehow I doubt it's actually a recording :)
Yahoo has mobile applications? o.O
Moonlight is just reflected sunlight, you just need more of it to make the colours come out.
E.g. see http://www.flickr.com/photos/dansdata/3074862610/ for an example - this photo was taken under a full moon, 30 second exposure.
If there's a domesticated species taking advantage of humans my money's definitely on cats rather than dogs.

Directory Opus on the Amiga
Thanks! :)
What happened to doing work first and then getting paid for it?
Why doesn't someone start a petition that's actually useful, like, I dunno, repealing the stupid 2nd amendment or something?
