Computer stuff gets cheaper over time. There's no reason the same won't be true for SSDs. At some point SSDs will be cheap enough that even if HDD are still 1/100th of the price, SSDs will still win because of all their other advantages.

Honestly, I really love the Starts With a Bang blog, and have been reading it for years.

But I do have to wonder why every single post is announced on /. these days.

We already have RSS, we subscribe, we know about it. By the time /. has caught up I've already read it, usually 24 hours ago.

Is /. getting a paid for these posts? Inquiring minds want to know.

I'm more interested in how many people are using PCs - I couldn't really care less how many new PCs are sold.
PCs last longer than they used to. Single-threaded performance isn't increasing anymore and multiple threads aren't being used that much, meaning performance gains are no longer a major reason for upgrades.

Also, a lot of what would have been laptop sales are now tablet sales.

It depends what you do and how you work I guess. For me, two monitors is ideal - IDE maximized on one, and help file / reference emails / IRC windows etc on the other.

Remember though that current 30" monitors have the same horizontal res (2560) as the 27s - only the vertical res is (slightly) higher.
