    wait now hold up. the previous poster suggested that most user needed email and web. how hard is it to just that with absolute security?

    i really dont see any room for talk, it can be done. i have my dear old mother on linux, just email and web. i have had no problems, no virus. no trouble.
    beleave me she's an luser if there ever was one.

    IMNSHO software can be damn close to 100% secure. now what's deployed.. that's where things have gone wrong.

    Palladium is the end of all of all hardware dongles. it's a hardware dongle you need to use the system. think of it as a dongle build in to All hardware.

    it's funny how imho IM is just another communications tool, like you know email.

    just goes to show that, with out open standards we all we have is WALLED islands of networks.

    me thinks that making IM more like email less like a cellphone network would be MUCH better.

    why not PHP?

    because PHP tends mixes content / presentation and control. and that mix does not scale well. and is a real pain fixing.

    not that perl or java automatically fixes this it's just as easy to do in both, but i have seen it more in PHP websites.

    yes, and it's easy too.
    after you configure the kernel, changeing it ONLY
    by adding build as module, from something that was not buildt at all. then do a make modules ; make modules_install
    this will make only the modules. nothing else.

    or you could export those lists to csv and use some perl magic to merge them. im going to bet that using perl would be MUCH easyer then VB...

    just because you have a tool doesn't mean that it's the best tool for the job.

    yes, i too have a love-hate relationship with package management. the solutions i like the most are debian's apt/dpkg and gentoo's ports.

    gentoo compiles everything, but doesnt have all that meny scripts for all the software i like to use.
    while debian does have everything i could think of. just how do i use apt to d/l and compile? also some things like vim i like to have strange options enabled at compile time, how would i choose what options?

    also there is meta package managemnet, that is managing packages on lots of boxen.

    So the thing to do is to put the wireless LAN port on the logical OUTSIDE of your firewall and let the laptops all tunnel in through it. Your firewall can also filter connections between the WLAN and your net feed.

    kinda, what you do is have one firewall then your DMZ with the wireless LAN there then your REAL firewall. you dont need black hat's geting to the laptops on your wireless LAN from the web, nor into your LAN from the wireless LAN.

    heh, once i sold SprintPCS cell phones. when i left that job, guess what they took my number! O yea, i could still have sevice but not with that number. So i know your pain, everyone knew the PCS number, and when Sprint cut me off i too lost most of my business contacts.

    wish that i could own a number that i have used for several years.

    but what this looks like is that Monster Hut is claming that Paetec is caning them based on hearsay. thus this could be really bad for isp's, if spammers can sue to stay online and dismiss complains as hearsay...

    you can have /boot on ReiserFS, but if you use GRUB and make a small /boot partition you will never have to mount /boot other then to add a new kernel.

    This way you can always boot up. even if / gets fubared
