    what Ballmer means by government funded is code writen as a project at a university. aka they dont what any GPL'ed projects writen where the GPL code has traditionally been writed. they are trying to cut off linux's air supply.

    The reality of the Al Gore Ralph Nader world is what I call the Baby-Seal perspective. Its an approach driven by emotions and devoid of practical science and engineering.

    there as and will never be a successful engineer in politics.

    love that good old law and order...

    try to think of what it would be like if everyone praticed the ideal of:
    "do what you will"
    self-interset and self-preservation would make it so that it wouldnt be taken to extremes, or if someone did they soon would,uh have others take extrem action.

    we have laws so that, our betters (those who can buy laws) can take extrem actions and get away with it. not so much as self-preservation, that just an excuse...

    it seems to me that you are suffering frim LIMITED SUPPLY PHILOSOPHY that there should be limits. that there is a limit to how safe one can be.

    risk is part of life. the struggle of life would not disapeer. only change. if you lived forever would you exept the artificial and arbitrary standards we now life under?

    IMHO people would change to be something better. why? because scare tacties based on dealth and restriction become useless, with unlimited supply.

    we are already seeing this with the unlimited supply of the information on the internet.

    do you really think that the massess would work as they do now? eternal hard boring work is the classic defintion of HELL. no, the masses would DEMAD changes. they would see how us hackers play / with our work and DEMAD the same. not that they would become hackers, but do that which they enjoy at the monent and like doing.

    IMHO those that can't accept unlimited life. will do themselfs in, or change. with limitless time, this is really no reason to have petty greed, (what would you be greedly for?) or fear. if do didnt do it right today there is a limitless supply of tomarrows...

    His father repeated to me twice, as if he couldn't quite believe the whole thing had actually happened, that the police gave him a case number and are keeping the report on file.

    sounds like there is a "police record" maybe not on S. and G. but sound like there maybe on that mentions there names, etc.

    now is this sensationalism? yes. but what other recorse do we have? but to warn others...

    IMHO the more ppl that share in idea the more value that idea has. for example when linus shared the linux source (his IP) it gained in value as others shared their ideas; code.

    now, let me get this right. i go and buy a creative nomad. then i see that it doesnt support my OS. what should i do? why, do what hackers have done for ages. REVERSE-ENGINEER it! linux wouldnt be here if hackers didnt.

    if creative wants control release a SDK. if not then dont cry when hackers fix the oversight.

    ask for paying for software that is diffrent. i will glady pay for quality software, and good games.

    us hackers will play with any technoly, dont cry if it gets played with. that means we LIKE it.

    i too am geting free dsl from flashcom. your luckly they forgot about me. i have called them asking were is my bill, they never had an answer.

    also i dont get newsletters, and they never did tell me how to login to my email.

    i have one question, have you had bad connects to there DNS server?

    The problem is that the commonly used versions of Windows allow the programs to take the whole OS down with them. Win2k doesn't have this problem.

    then i must have been triping when i killed my brothers unkillable win2k box w/ my leet, game playing...

    that is, i have killed win2k just by trying to play games. now im not a win2k expert, dont touch the stuff but to play the latest games, but my linux box dont EVER die like that. win2k maybe more stable but progams can still take down the whole OS.
