Why doesn't he use a Cattle Ear Tag then everyone can read it even when they doesn't have a nfc capable device.
Seriously, I think it's not smart to give up you privacy like this, via an NFC tag.
Secondly the openSuSE community is very big and is operating on more or less independently from Novell.
Even if Novell would dying I think other companies would by the SuSE part with SLES. As SLES quality is also due to the openSuSE quality I don't think a owner of SLES would not support openSuSE.
I as a openSuSE packages still foresee a bright future for openSUSE and SLES also because the community around openSuSE is growing.
And there are great projects within openSuSE like the openSUSE Build Service (Multi distro packaging framework), SUSE Studio (Build a custom distro), etc
I thing the console builders are to blame.
Most PC games don't have hidden costs, and you are the ruler of the PC, more of less.
Since Sony's action to remove the otherOS option I'm not fond of the consoles anymore.
Customer who are using console have more or less sold their rights to the console maker. In the end they have the power we as a customer has non (by accepting te EULA you've sold your console soul to...)
They can remove anything they want to and even ask money for something that used to be free.
If it's a Philips product (of which they would have been capable of). It might be that friends of the evoluon (the Philips "flying saucer") might be able to help you?
Another important thing to realize about EFI is that it also contemplates enabling chipset features that will trap certain OS operations to an EFI-based control system running in System Management Mode. In other words, under EFI, there is no guarantee that the OS owns the platform.
Accesses to IDE I/O addresses, or certain memory addresses, can be trapped to EFI code and potentially examined and modified or aborted. Many see this as an effort to build a "DRM BIOS".
I don't see any advantage when it would be encrypted or DRM would be used. As a garage needs to do tests they'll be able to change values. If you get the keys credentials from a garage one can do the same.
It should just be impossible either change values for certain devices like brakes when the car is running or they should be reset when a diagnostic device is detached.
This new item wouldn't be an issue in most industries.
If an employee of a certain car producer drives to work with the car of the competitor no one wouldn't even be bothered. It's a fact that this happens.
It seems this problem is also fixed in kernel >=2.6.24-rc4 .

Who cares anyway USB2 sucks. Firewire/IEE1394 rules. But the worst will probably win like with SCSI.
I don't know why we need USB2 as IEE1394 can do the same. (What i understood USB2 is based on IDE protocol and IEE1394 is more like the SCSI protocol?)
I've just read the article and if i read the whole artikle than i see that there are quite a few things that are not true.
From the Artikle:
Chances are slim that a POS application designed for the KDE user interface will run under the GNU user interface. So if you change your mind and want to use GNU instead of KDE, any money you spent on designing the application for the KDE interface was likely wasted.
Remark: This will work. But you have the install both the QT and gtk libraries.
Remark towards windows. Not all win9x programs work under ME.
From Artikle:
Another big drawback to Linux presently is the lack of server side software, like database, message queuing services, transaction servers, etc. From the transaction server side, there is no Linux software that provides functionality such as Microsoft Transaction Server (MTS) or Microsoft BizTalk1 Server.
Remark: There are alot of DB programs out there. And Oracle does also run on Linux. Is this a small DB vendor? Who wants to run MTS anyway, we have sendmail, Postfix etc.
From Artikle:
Support / Maintenance Costs
Remark: M$ never talks a bout license fees. You only need to buy one CD set of Linux and you can install it trough out your whole company.
If you have a Linux system manager with enough knowledge you probably don't need and support.
From Artikle:
Cash registers in retail stores, hotels, and restaurants have a large number of hardware devices attached to them, such as printers for receipts, bar-code readers, touch screens, credit-card processors, keypads, and cash drawers. Linux has very limited driver support for these devices. What this means for retailers, hoteliers, and restaurateurs is that they have to write the drivers and other functionality themselves, wait for someone else, like the POS vendors, to write them, or pay an outside vendor to develop them.
Remark: Does Win2000 also iuse the smae divice drivers than win NT or win 9x? Does M$ write the drivers for old hardware, for free? I don't tink so you'll probably be stuck with your 'old' OS.
From Artikle:
Lack Of Formal Development Schedule, Research, and Standards
Remark: Standards? I think that is the problem with M$ they make trier own standards and don't share them with other OS vendors. Like SMB, Outlook etc.
From Artikle:
There is a great possibility that Linux, like Unix before it, will split into vendor-specific variants. The whole point of the progress that's been made in the retail industry in the past 20 years was to avoid going back to that model.
Remark:
I don't know if the heart about the Linux Standard Base?
From Artikle:
The article discusses how lax security is to blame for the problem and how the worm exploits many of the well-known flaws of the Linux operating system based on a default installation of Red Hat's 6.2 and 7.0 distributions of the software.
Remark: I Love You.
I'm missing (but that is not strang as it's a M$ artikle):
Compatibility probles between Office 2000 and say office 9x. Office 2000 files can't be read in Office 9x etc. Or better sad newer office files cant be read in the older version.
What i'm wondering about:
Why is M$ putting so much effort into this?
According to them Linux is a loosing OS anyway? I mean if everything is so obivious. Thatn people won't use it.
I think they think differently.
I miss a list of companies that are happely supporting and using Linux.

This looks very much like the US. The new way to make money to sew people over anything.

I hope the US type of nonsense is soon coming to an end!
Internet makes everything free and accessible!
I think it's nonsence. i think IE should be a part of applications group. Purely because other companies are in the same position. They can also deliver a web browser for windows. So the customer can choose what kind of browser they want to use. By the way if you continue this thought than wyou would also say. Outlokk cant live without IE so add it to. Than outlook is a part of office so add office to. Than we are back at square one. It think with a split-up microsoft life would be much easier. Than we probably will have office on Linux. And probanly outlook too. Not that i'm happy with outlook but that is what we have to use at work.:-(
Yes you can change the default demons. Via yast, System administrator, Change configuration file. Or edit your/etc/rc.config file.
I've installed 6.4 on 4 PIII systems @ work. One dual system. No problem. And on a IDT, PI, K6 and Atlon system work all fine. By the way i don't like xosview at all. I think it's about time that the linux distribustitions more or less shoud be standaristed. See link: LinuxBase . I think the cause of the problem is the differance between the linux distributions. If this contiues than we might indeed get a fork. What people are already fearing of.
My experiance is that most companies who are hooked to microsoft only opne the exchange port. By the way what is standard in the format how exchange or outlook writes their emails? By the way name me one email client that talks exchange outside the microsoft ones? (exchange and outlook)? By the way if a company choose to leave the emails on the server with the exchange protocol how easy is it to switch to imap with another server?
Than we have outlook with it's outlook plugins. If you have used tese ones it's almost impossible to use the page by another web editor. Why Frontpage plug ins? Other web editors do just use plain HTML with other standard applications.
Than microsoft doesn't follow the standard with IE.
Than dynamic directory. We already have LDAP.

That's It.
By the it's your own fault if you choose for something that isn't used as an openstandard. People should have the feedom of choise.
Even IBM/Lotus woke up they are using SMTP for Lotus 5.
I have read the article. I think it's basically peoples own fault. That is for a lot of microsoft applications. I mean it's really dum to buy a product that doesn't have an openstandard like for instance exchange. Who in his right mind would by a car that he only can fill up at one petrol station?
