I've been with my German woman for 10 years and my German still sucks. I never take a deep enough breath for some of the words and I wind up wheezing through a short phrase...

I learned passable Italian by taking a 4 week class and travelling in Italy for another 10 weeks. Northern Italians though my accent was southern and southern Italians thought my accent was northern. They were all quite suprised when I told them I was American -- they thought that if I were NOT Italian, I was Armenian.

There's a reason the cashiers at places like Shaws (a grocery store in the US) and Stop 'n' Shop (ibid) only care about the "beeps" -- they are mercilessly hounded by management to get their seconds/scan down to as close to zero as possible. The local Shaws has the list posted on the employee bulletin board with the best and the worst cashiers singled out. How can you scan for theft when you're passing items through the scanner at light-speed?

Most of these cashiers are high-school kids who just do as their told.

I had something similar to that, but home-made. Microcenter had those 3-prong 6" extension cords on sale for $0.99 a few years ago and I picked up 8 of them and plugged them into a nice powerstrip that I had laying around. Now I can plug in all of my cool gadgets and not waste plugs on the powerstrip.

People who use Quark held off on OS X for a long time BECAUSE Quark held off on OS X for a while. After the Quark 5 debacle and how long it took for Quark 6 to come to market, they didn't have a lot of choice.

My sources at Quark tell me that the next major release of Quark (Quark 7) will be for both PPC and Intel Macs (i.e. fat binaries) as they have switched over to Xcode for development.
