Yup, just like I said. Its semantics anyhow. There will be a charger on each "battery", many chargers, many batteries in the installation.

The preferred packaging of batteries for this type of application is a standard shipping container. They can install an assembly of batteries in a shipping container, along with a charger and cooling as needed, ready to connect when it gets delivered. The container is part of the battery system. This minimizes the cost of transport, and makes connection upon delivery pretty simple. So they just need to send a steady stream of 'container batteries' that can be installed as they arrive.

Packaging is a distinguish-er. A group of cells in a package is a battery. A group of batteries separately interconnected is an assembly or pack.

The article says the 'plan' has $550M, but it does not specifically mention the battery cost, I assume part of that is for other parts of the plan. If the batteries cost that much.. wow.

Musk has been building an inventory of power-wall batteries because nobody is buying them. They are sitting there costing money, so this is a brilliant play. Its not hard to install a shitload of batteries in a short period of time, and he can delay signing, using one excuse or another, until he's ready. Maybe he'd be willing to sell at a loss, but I think the price will be huge as well.

I wonder if Musk understands that a single large battery group might not meet grid demands despite its size. A key factor is discharge rate, and for grid stabilization discharge and charge rates need to be, on occasion, much faster than what is required for cars or even home supplies. I wonder if his guarantee includes being capable of discharging at the rates required to solve their issues, or simply only covers getting the equipment installed.

Enough to power ~8000 households for 8 hours at 2kW per household. Not quite going to solve any large-scale problem.

Calling it the 'largest battery' is a bit of a misnomer. It more appropriately would be called the largest group of batteries.

What is the price if he delivers on time? Why is that not in any of these articles? Seems like an important detail.

Does anyone wonder why every negative story involving the Tesla or Elon Musk receives coverage entirely out of balance with the rest of the Corporate news.

You will very seldom see a story lead with, "Chevrolet driver involved in accident due to mechanical failure!"

Musk's Dog caught in neighbor's garbage

Musk hypes everything up, he loves attention and so he gets attention in return. Plus, Tesla is a growth company with a lot of legitimate questions regarding sustainability (see link below), so the investment analysts are going to talk about it a lot. There are reports on other car companies, but their are fewer question marks with established companies, and those articles don't get posted on slashdot.

I would not invest in Tesla right now. I've never seen such shorting on such a large company, and from my experience the shorts are right a lot more often than wrong.

  10. So, you think hunting down your critics is OK for a news organization? I'll just disagree. It may not sound that bad until an "outed" person or a family member gets attacked because of their beliefs, or it turns out they were mentally ill and dealing with issues, or going through a rough patch in their life. Maybe we'd all be better with no cloak of anonymity on the web at all, but since it exists I don't think news organizations should target individuals just for being critics. That's a power they should use responsibly.

  11. Re:I'm shocked, shocked! on TV Networks Hide Bad Ratings With Typos, Report Says (cnet.com) · · Score: 1

My response to the headline was 'who cares?'. Hiding ratings for shows nobody is watching, its like a mole picking its nose... I'll never see it.

  12. I don't necessarily care about this particular person, but would you be OK with a news organization outing critics en masse? Its one thing to go after 'internet trolls' in general and out some of the nasty ones, but its completely another to just target one because their video went viral and CNN didn't like it. I think our new organizations should work on objectivity, and not tracking down critics and deciding which ones they should out, for moral reasons or otherwise..

  13. No, I do not believe a news organization should out this person and I particularly don't think they should threaten to. Why? Because they are selectively doing it because of a video. It is a targeted response to fact that Trump got some chuckles at their expense. They should have risen above it, instead they put themselves on the level that Trump has engaged them. They are not clearly not being objective or professional.

I don't even think they should have even looked for the source.

  14. I don't care about the guy, or how stupid he is. That's not a justification for CNN to pursue his identity. There are LOTS of sleazes on the internet, worse than this guy, the only reason they went after him was the video.

  15. "Troll hunting business"? They clicked on his pic on Reddit, then searched for him on Facepalm? That's digging deep?

Go eat your gruel. That's handed to you....

No, that is not all they did to get his identity. But they never should have even gone down that path at all. Of course, if you think news organizations should start outing all trolls that happen to post about them, please say so.

  16. Sure they guy is crap and probably deserves it, that doesn't justify a news organization acting as they did.

  17. That you resorted to such a response is quite telling.

  18. His information was already public so it's not like they dug up private information anyway like Drudge and the like would have you believe. .

His name was not public, they paid people to work to discover his identity. Why were they even looking for him in the first place? they had no idea about his other horrible posts. Witch hunts are OK if you happen to find a witch? That seems to be your rationalization.

  19. This has nothing to do with a "political agenda". What this was about is CNN felt the post in question advocated violence against CNN and reports in general. .

Oh spare me that pathetic excuse. We see much worse threats everyday from trolls on all sides. Reporters and politicians and everyone in the public eye. The video itself was humorous. They would not have even known about they other stuff posted if they didn't set out to find the originator.

  20. So you are saying it must be done due to threat of violence. Not sure I'd agree that is the best angle to drive a solution from.

  21. No, there's fundamental differences in philosophy behind those who want their lives dependent on the government and those that don't.

Then there is the very simple and well proven problem of one segment of the population largely providing for another. One group working hard while another gets something for nothing results in greater divisiveness and resentment, particularly when times are tough. Add that growing entitlement programs are the single most challenging financial element to sustain for almost every country, its not something you want to pursue quickly. Every other means should be first exhausted to find ways to keep people productive and earning their income.

So are such a sack of you know what. You can't even admit to what you posted., Here are YOUR words.

'Life force energy', Chi in China, Ki in Japan, is an important concept in eastern medicine, philosophy and martial arts. For those who practice it, there is no need for 'believe'. We simply feel it.

I suppose you'll weasel around that fact... don't bother you are a worthless troll and you have just proven that beyond doubt.

  23. IF CNN wants to get into the troll hunting and exposure business, fine, but they'd better do it without taking sides, there are plenty of liberal, conservative, black, white, male, female, gay, straight, religious, atheist trolls out there to hunt.

    If they want to employ these tactics selectively because it doesn't fit their political agenda, then they are no longer journalists, they are activists;

CNN's KFile identified the man behind "HanA**holeSolo." Using identifying information that "HanA**holeSolo" posted on Reddit, KFile was able to determine key biographical details, to find the man's name using a Facebook search and ultimately corroborate details he had made available on Reddit.

  24. Nothing? Not run the story, because it was never a story!

I mean seriously "some guy on the internet made a video from some 20+ year old footage of the president and out logo" Its NOT news.

Most people thought the video was funny, certainly conservatives and independents who know CNN is agenda driven, and also even a lot of liberals. Nobody would have expected CNN to react to it at all. But they did and they look foolish. Yes, they guy is a troll, but the reaction was to the specific video, not his other behavior, and being a troll isn't an excuse for CNN to drag themselves to Trump level tactics. They were not big enough to rise above it, which is what many on all sides criticize Trump for.

There rest of your post is bullshit drivel. Same crap could be said for religious beliefs... you sound just like a preacher talking about 'discovering the truth'. Please stop because I really don't have any respect for those that insist on proselytizing such beliefs. In fact, I think people who so easily believe in unknown forces that have no scientific basis or evidence are quite shallow minded and don't have the capacity to be objective. Now, those that have such beliefs but understand why others might not want to receive proselytization of them have my respect. At least they can see things objectively. You don't appear to be able to put aside your need to insist this life force energy is real in the absence of you ability to provide even a tiny bit of evidence of it. Why is it so important to you that others belief in this life force energy?

Why is it any different than me calling the relaxed feeling I get after I fart the result of mystical force? I think my farts are life giving. No scientific evidence, but hey if you deny it you'll never know the truth.
