  1. Blue Tooth Bridge on You've Dropped Your Landline — Now What? · · Score: 1

I have used the Dock-n-Talk and I have used the X-Link. I believe the X-Link is much nicer. The X-Link allows for MULTIPLE phones to base themselves on the receiver unlike the Dock-n-Talk. When one of the cell phones rings the land lines would ring. you can either do this with a wireless basestation as I have or you can use the wired phones. Top use the wired phones you would disconnect them at the DMarc box and tie the wires together - signal from the X-Link can then be injected at any phone jack. This isn't hard to do - same thing you would do to add a PBX. As I recall Asterisk was working on supporting something liek this but when I was doing my setup the support was poor and i was never able to get it to work - I'd be interested in hearing if Asterisk finally has this working well. In any case the X-Link isn't very expensive and reuqires ZERO maintenance so if you simply want ringing phones and have no need for voicemail or call management the X-Link is a better way to go.

Perception is reality, those reading the comments - accurate or not - are going to take them into account. Does your book link to your errata page somehow? You could probably have happier "users" if the cost of the book wasn't so high. That is honestly the most likely reason so many are pirating it. If it's indeed out of print as you stated elsewhere that could also be an issue...

So wait, the book is out of print and you're using the sales of USED books, textbooks no less, to judge value? Aren't textbooks often sold to recoup costs at the end of each class? Why would this price go up when the incentive to sell existing copies is so high? Are you aware of courses requiring your out of print book? I understand the book is ten years old, have you considered perhaps updating it such that it would have content that would generate additional interest and thus sales? Has the state of the art in this field not progressed in that timeframe?

I see complaints that the engine is "old" and that the graphics aren't up to snuff with more modern games. I say "So What?!".

I like FPS and own all of the UT series of games as well as some of the older id games. I still find myself going back to UT2K4 over and over even though I have a later "better" UT3. Why? It's not the graphics, it's not the engine, it's not the sound - it's the gameplay. UT2K4 is FUN for me. Fun doesn't require super duper grpahics it simply requires engaging gameplay. With all of the custom maps, weapons, and other things added to UT2K4 it's a ton of FUN to play. Looking at the movies for this game it looks FUN just like the old Quake games were. Okay maybe the graphics aren't quite as good as a modern shooter but I don't appear to be paying $50 for it either AND honestly many of those bells and whistles found in expensive games don't add to the FUN. Kripes I had FUN playing the original Wolfenstein. the original Quake, why couldn't I also enjoy this one? Folks don't like the maps? Build better ones - just like what has been done with UT, Quake, Doom, and others. Stop bitching about that stuff and fix it if you really have heartburn with it...

Ooops! There might be a SNORT sig you could use but if the author was smart it shouldn't look abnormal...

FWIW I came to this discussion upon seeing the headline hoping to find out more data about this sucker but so far it's just arguing about Linux vs Winders blah blah. Good god, jump to conclusions much? Kindle is upset about a program that pulls an ID number that can be used to purchase books from others - and help strip the DRM from their files. They are NOT stopping or even trying to stop the use of books from many sources - if they were then their PDF service wouldn't exist and their software wouldn't be MOBI compatible. Many Kindle owners get books from sources other than Amazon and they have no problems doing so. You don't seem to understand why they are doing this, frankly I'm puzzled too since the DRM stripping script is still out there alive and well lol.

As for granting authors access to the book market - Amazon has to try and get them to sell not the other way around! Some authors are flat out refusing to go digital at all, the ones that are willing they publish. Try buying any of the Potter books electronically for instance. Amazon even has a button on their book purchases where you can ask to have a book done electronically. BTW the Potter PDFs converts fine sans Amazon assistance.

That said, yeah your exactly right as to what this script does. that ID is also needed to strip the DRM with other nifty scripts - that for some reason they haven't tried to take-down lol.

Yes, the DRM sux however it can be stripped off with some creative searching - something I'll be attempting to do soon. No you don't save piles of money on books with the Kindle but I do spend less on books than I would buying them at my bookstore or COSTCO and I can carry quite a few of them around without hassle and read them in any light that would be suitable for a normal book. Works for me, I'm happy with the thing.

Simple - their bookstore sucked. the Sony was a superior device - with less easily accessible content. I know guys who owned them and bought Kindles later to get content. Amazon on the other hand already had a pile of content and contacts with the folks who made it - they just needed a device. It's butt ugly but the screen is great and the battery life rox when not using the radio. When I'm reading I'm not focused on anything but the text and flipping the page - the Kindle works because there's content for it despite being ugly. Kindle2 is sleeker but the Sony still has the edge in looks, shame about the content.

BTW - I have converted many PDF and have mailed none of them anywhere. The Mobi tools work fine for this and were free. Took a few moments of time is all. the mail away process isn't one I've used but I understand it's pretty darned good!

Lets all watch as countries like the UK attempt to ban pointy kitchen knives and screwdrivers in an ever downward spiral of attempting to get everyone to stop hurting one another. Oh and cameras, we need lots more of those as they've proven terribly effective.

The TPB will no longer be needed when the content providers pull their heads out of their ass. I can now get unprotected MP3 at decent bitrates with album art for a reasonable price - I do not download MP3. When does that happen with movies and when will such services be available\legal everywhere? Movie prices are nutz, DVD and BD prices are still sky high, and it's months before content appears on said media in the US let alone all over the world. The TPB is simply filling a need that the legal owners are too stupid to understand. They cannot remake the world the way they want it nor turn back the hands of time but it's not stopped them from trying.
