    There was a play on Turing though.BREAKING THE CODE I allways wanted to see it. Derek Jacobi rocks!

    BTW I own a first addition American of the Hodges book.

    I would like to use a Ipod with Linux also, and we are not alone in that wish. I have been watching this page for updated info, looks like they have got partial success so far. http://giantlaser.com/~jason/ipod.html

    If it's a simple as doing that, I would be over it like a cheap suite.
    The thing is, if it's not, I'm not going to run Apple/MacOS just to use it... :)

    I have a near irational interest in getting a Ipod,
    firewire is part of that, how does the ipod interact
    with a firewire card and linux?
    No linux no Ipod, but I am piqued.

    I agree, I put on a test system here at work. It felt faster.

    I hate to say anthing nice about M$, but, XP seemed much faster on a PII 350 with 256 then Win2K. I wonder why? subjectivly at least it DID seem faster.Enough that I bought it for my computer at for the kids to play thier games on.

    Now if it only ran half the games for my kids I bout it for I would be content.Any one else able to play reading rabbit on XP?

    I have read most of Moshe's articles at Byte and he hits me as the worst kind of dilettante; can't keep his mind made up, and is more interested in fashion then really helping solve any problems. It all about being on the inside and looking clever then anything else.

    Am I wrong? I kinda hope so.

    I also have been thinking about a Neighborhood Area Network. I can't imagine trying to charge for such a service, and for the most part I actually use a very small percentage of bandwidth that my cable modem has, my guess is less then .01%

    If I set up Linux as a router for such a beast, how are Linux's QOS tools nowadays? Could I set up QOS so that when I am using my cable modem, that I get preferential treatment? I don't mind sharing, but the last thing I want to do is degrade my connectivity when I do want to use it.

    They looked at Win2k it was consided to expensive. Or at least thats what I thought they said. There system was a NT 4.0 they had a choice 2k(XP)+active directory or RH.

    The choice of moving to active directory must of been a factor. Having designed more then a few directory based authentication systems, it's not easy or without a LOT of training.

    Anytime you add or change a network of any size, you MUST test; you MUST train. Test networks are a good thing; and need to be used, if you company relys on it's networks, you need to test any change first.

    Gee I guess if you don't change your network ever; you will never have to get any training either, right?

    Hmm, well. It was a topic last week. maybe it has not hit the lists yet. basicly it (XFS) changes more then just a few things, and more then a new FS should. I know it makes changes to the VM, and scheduling.

    There was more info then that, but I hate para-phrasing other people.

    Don't you wish there was a built in spell check in slashcode? But then again it keeps me from being too verbose. :>

    He has commented about this before on linux-kernel. Search, read, be enlightened.

    For now it's... no, with good reason. IMHO XFS is the best thing sense sliced bread. In very informal testing it works best out of all the jornaling FSs that I have played with.

    I read this back then and always wondered what happend.
    IMHO
    both ways of making damascus make sense. The stanford method made more sense, basicly it said "brake up the carbon (crystals)in the steel by pounding it repeatedly" Or just use ultrasound :).

    I love comics, I don't enjoy reading them online. To much of it is in the detail of the art, the feel of the paper.

    I think there are some amazing comics out there In someways I allways felt that there was a connection between the independent minded comics and open source.

    You realy should read some of these.

    Ok banjo is running on the new slashcode/MYSQL/a linux box.
    All self contained?
    The new code adds features, how about scalability, new contributers(coders),comments on the development?
    Is slashdot still running 2.2.x kernels? Is slashcode still dependent on MYSQL?
    When will this version going to be moved to www?

    Open source and CPRM and SDMI are not linked. I can be a open source bigot, and agree with CPRM and SDMI's goals. They are not contradictory.

    If I am for abolishing the death penalty, what has that got to do with de-legalizing drugs?

    At least ask a question that makes sense!
