Sure, if you want to prevent any commercial app from ever being on the Linux desktop! Remember that the base fonts for a platform are provided by the OS vendor, commercial app vendors don't want to deal with this stuff.
Admittedly the feature was little more than a glorified hashtable, but still:
1. This is MS, the company that takes 15 years to realize viruses might be a problem. 2. If it wasn't going to make it in a new version of windows, which accounts for half of all their revenue, how were they going to give it away for free??
Y'all need to stop drinking that kool aid, or at least stop taking it rectally..
Oddly enough, if a computer is stylish, it doesn't have to be a scary monstrosity that scares the other gender away!! Hell a powerbook in the right coffee shop will often get me some introductions to some attractive young ladies.
And, btw, if you haven't seen why apple's _really_ successful, check out one of the retail stores. Seeing that many attractive women (who _weren't_ hired by the company) in a computer store is a mind-boggling event. Truly fantastic.
IMHO, I don't think there's much doubt that there will be long-lasting civil strive (if not war) within Iraq as the government attempts to build legitimacy. When a foreign power takes down a nation's government, then dictates the new one, the population associate the new government with the attacking power. When that power leaves, so does all respect for that gov't. It's happened far too often in the past to believe (at least for me) that Iraq will be this lighthouse of democracy or what-not.
I'll put my money on the beliefs of the CIA & State dept: that while Iraq had very few connections to terrorism before (Saddam ran a secular state, which the fundamentalists didn't particularly like), it will be a breeding ground for quite some time now.
Flat tax would be nice. Current tax law pushes most of the burden onto the lower and middle classes. Higher classes get most of their incomes from different areas, like capital gains, which do not pay their due burden for our government. The higher tax brackets they're supposed to have for those higher incomes are rarely effective, as so few make money in traditional ways.
Remember that SS was put into place because most Americans weren't putting any (or enough) money away for retirement. History has shown time and time again that people don't learn from history, so if we were to remove it, most Americans would likely be in the same poor state as before at retirement.
The current SS reform idea is little more than a smoke and mirrors game to cut out the benefits, without reducing the tax load.
Those who know how to invest well enough to make money in this scheme can do well with 401(k)s, and likely won't depend so much on social security (although they will receive their fair share). However, the rest of America (which, history keeps telling us, is the majority) will likely blow it and are left with even less money to retire with than SS provides now.
What I can't believe is how far to the right this country's shifted so quickly. What was the center in 2000 is now the 'extreme left' today. Dean's a proper left-leaning democrat, not a republican-wannabe apologist.
The right's gotten a strong wind recently, and we need to fight back accordingly, not start letting go of core values. And it's well-needed, even with such a poor candidate as Kerry, we still got 48%* of the electorate. Kerry ignored most of the issues at hand and only attacked Bush's strongpoints. I don't think Dean will let our newer candidates make the same mistakes.
Maybe I'm an old romantic, but I don't think homophobia (gay rights), subordination of women (abortion), warmongering (iraq), and the extortion of the lower classes (taxes, social security) are American values.

Actually innovation = risk, and that 86% of projects over 100k LOC either fail to meet requirements or get cancelled. And yes, that's a real statistic.
Remember he's saying to buy it instead of making it. So, instead of inventing the tires with the perfect tread for the path you want to take, you're probably better off sticking to the existing roads and getting your wheels from goodyear.
Sony's been making money on the PS2 for years (they originally lost money on them, but unlike MS, they can make the devices cheaper with modern technology, as they make the parts). MS still pays more than double the sale price on each unit.
I wasn't trying to troll, just explain what looked like a misunderstanding. And yeah, comparing free Linux support to enterprise commercial unix support is thoroughly invalid, especially since you can get similar support offerings for Linux.
TCP assumes anything over 2 minutes is a lost packet.

The third that used it to cheat. Now they're in marketing.
I didn't report it, just b/c I thought it was too little a feat to mention. Password: Joshua.
indeed!
I'm waiting for that HoloDisk (HVD), 1TB on the same 12cm and 1 GB/sec xfer rates!!
be careful about pulling out the ol' measuring stick in UIDs ;-) there are 722982 people before you on this site!

You know they graded on a curve.
He got the UK mixed up with the Caribbean. Common mistake.
I think it's a reference to the part of the drum you hit to make that traditional sound after someone says a one-liner like that.
For good coverage on the truth to social security, check out this article, which I of course found 15 seconds after finishing my long post.

By refusing them the right to choose themselves whether or not they must carry a child for 9 months.

Tiger's capabilities there are only for the 'Dashboard' applets.
HP probably won't release mac drivers for this...
"Lally's Wang" is pretty much not supported by google. i would like it to be included in the future.

Congrats on those unit sales MS! Keep it up!!

His point was that the potential time delays on the listed Linux support mechanisms may be much more expensive to a customer than a support contract.
This isn't discounting the fact that one can get various levels of paid support for Linux as well.
Oh God. C's strings (char *) aren't length-checked. C++'s strings (std::string) ARE.
Why won't anyone on slashdot read a book?
