Between the porn industry choosing HD-DVD and now this, I know what I'm opting for when upgrading to HD movies! Sorry, Sony. I was so looking forward to having spyware installed on my PC with every BluRay disc purchased just like your music discs.
A restraining order would also include marketing materials, etc. and could easily last longer than 6 months if Cisco just refused to settle.
I doubt it, though. Someone else mentioned it, and I think they're right -- this is a defensive move on Cisco's part. They're in negotiations and Apple jumped the gun. If Cisco doesn't actively defend the trademark, they lose it. Most likely this lawsuit will quietly go away in a few days when Apple signs on the dotted line.
Actually, I think the limit is now $12,000, but it will take a creative accountant to make this work. That is gonna cost him, unless the accountant does it pro bono.
God help him if he mentioned anything anywhere about "tax deductible" or even "charity".
It is "income" basically because it "comes in" to his bank account. It certainly isn't outgo (expense). The money goes into his account, thus is income. If he meant to be a middle-man for donations, he needed to follow all the rules -- and didn't. He's screwed.
I doubt that. Unlike Apple Corps, Cisco has Money (notice the capital "M"). Their market cap is 2x Apple's and their Gross Profit is about the size of Apple's Total Revenue. Cisco would eat them for lunch. Can you imagine what would happen if Cisco got a restraining order and halted Apple's phone sales?
Read the article, and it will be obvious that the person who set everything up is not only and idiot, but they are rude and foul-mouthed as well.
PayPal is doing what they have to, giving themselves time to investigate to make sure it isn't a scam. Scams like this are rampant, both with soldier funds and hurricane relief funds.
Considering the guy did NOT set this up as a non-profit, he is going to be in for a rude shock come tax time. Once PayPal releases $20,000 to his PERSONAL BANK ACCOUNT the bank will file a "suspicious transaction report" with the gov't. I wouldn't be surprised it HIS BANK didn't then freeze the funds for 30-90 days.
Assuming it is then released, the IRS is going to count that $20K as INCOME and will want 20-33% tax from this person. All his protestations of "but I gave it to the widow's family as a gift!" won't amount for shit.
Sure, he meant well, but he is going to be a living example of "The Road to Hell is Paved With Good Intentions" because PayPal is only the beginning of his descent.
Did you see that episode of Seinfeld where Jerry's uncle thought everyone in the world who expressed any opinion at all was an anti-Semite?
You will run into people who, no matter how bad they were and how well meaning you are (as hiring manager) will not believe one word of what you say. They didn't get a job because you are a racist, sexist, bigot, homophobe, homosexual, threatened by their l33t skillz or any one of another defensive fantasy where you have an unreasoning prejudice.
I don't get the whole "back in time" thing. Saying it 3 different ways in a 3 sentence blurb isn't quite enough. Is this, like, before the Great Flood?:-)
I have an older laptop provided by my employer - P3 1 GHz, 768 Mb RAM, running Win2000.
The supplied DVD software is Mediamatics DVD Player and it can't really handle DVD playback with the stock configuration. Every minute or so there is a slight hitch in the video. This may be due to McAfee AV, the required-and-I-can't-disable-it-by-policy AV software, but I don't know. I can disable the autoscan for 5 minutes at a time and that doesn't help, but I don't know if it is the resources it consumes in the background causing the hitch.
Kaffeine under Kubuntu using Xine as a backend has no such problem. It plays DVDs back with less CPU usage, less RAM usage and no hiccups.
My kids play Runescape, an online game that runs in Java. Ever since I changed the laptop to dual-boot they play using Linux. It is noticeably faster under Linux (Firefox/Sun Java 1.5008) than Windows 2000 (IE or Firefox/Sun Java 1.5009).
I can't upgrade to XP, since this is the stock corporate image. New laptops are coming out soon, but they have such high specs, I doubt anything I run under any OS will cause a hit. The hiccups under Windows could very well be the security crap (mostly McAfee) pushed down by Corporate. I *know* McAfee's on-access scan makes a BIG difference when I click on a large.tar.gz or.mpg file. I can literally go get a snack and a drink, downstairs, before it responds if I click on a full 700 Mb.iso file.
As far as using SUDO to burn a CD, use K3B. The first time you use it the wizard should notice that and offer to fix it (SUID ROOT) for you. Then, never again will this crop up.
Hog Island was a pig-shaped mile-long (1600 meter) barrier island destroyed by a major hurricane. It was off the southern coast of the Rockaways. That is just off Long Island, NY.
No assumption, I was talking about *me*. I do get paid on an hourly basis at the moment. A full 80-hour week would net me over $5K after taxes. I would be so happy.
If the company I'm contracted to guarantees me an 80-hour week, I'd happily work it. The time-and-a-half would more than make up for the inconvenience. Hell, *I'd* buy *them* a $100 gift card.
So far as I am aware, no company has EVER succeeded in blocking other people from reverse engineering their file format.
Enter the DMCA, stage right-wing. AutoDESK added basic encryption to the file format starting with AutoCAD 2004. Now, instead of just reverse engineering the protocol, you would have to decrypt it as well. This is now, in the U.S., against the law except for certain conditions. This one, interoperability, may well be one of the conditions, but that will be up to a judge.
And file formats are THE key. This is why Microsoft doesn't provide the full specs on.doc,.xls,.ppt, Project or other file formats. This is why AutoDESK is fighting so hard to keep.DWG closed. Switching to another program, including training your entire user base, is child's play compared to making sure that mountain of existing files you have can still be read and used.
"Function A is under a different menu in OOo Writer than MS Word" and "This function doesn't seem to exist in OOo Calc" are trivial compared to "I can't read this document" and "My formulas don't work any more".
Lock those customers in tight enough, and they'll not only put up with getting screwed, they'll fight for your right to screw them as hard as you want.
Konq/E can be statically linked to QT libs so as not to incur other deps. The CD browser is provided by IOslaves and is part of KDE, not Konq.
Please, God, tell me you were talking about reconfiguring Opera to use GTK+ and not Konq! I'm not sure whoever commits a heresy of that magnitude would survive the night!:-)
Actually, it is not. The Konqueror-Embedded project has had a working browser for some time. It does require QT or QT/Embedded, but then again so does the version of Opera they were testing.

I do believe that comment was a subtle reference to The Princess Bride, and not Risk.
Personally, I preferred Australia --> Americas --> Africa, though.
Well, there is a good possibility his is DEvolving, instead.
I do believe the timescale for that is just a wee bit off, though.

Yes, at 1280x1024 which is better than a Radeon 7000. Don't knock it. It isn't supposed to be the flaming best, just good and open.
Just to bring this back into view...

The Open Graphics Project is making steady progress.
GoogleTalk and GizmoProject both work on the N770, so I'd be surprised if they don't support the new N800.
The shredder is part of KGPG.

On August 23, 1893 a Category 2 hurricane hit it directly and wiped it off the face of the Earth.

I think the subject needs more study. I'll work on Halle, you on the guy next to you. We can compare notes later. :-)
Unfortunately, Halle Barry's breasts weren't in all of them. Several could have used the boost. I know it certainly helped Swordfish.
