To shelter one person or four people requires large screen areas. Without lots of air circulation one could not spend ten minutes in this shelter day or night without being in a very heavy sweat. And one simply can not open the door as mosquitoes bloom under the wet, hot conditions. A tent made entirely of screen with a tarp large enough to cover it if rain hits would keep people a lot safer.
I wonder if major innovators are safe from the inevitable enemies they will make due to change. Tesla is probably seen as the great Satan by the auto industry and now we can add in the oil and gas industries and power industries, big coal and natural gas to people who are not exactly in love with Mr. Musk. This man deserves to be protected by the secret service as he is a national treasure and in my opinion he is at risk. With the exception of the seriously handicapped all students should receive an academic education suitable for admission to one of the better universities. Those who are not able should be diverted into groups taught to function in the lesser trades. The problem is that failing to offer academic education to every able student in a way labels and limits them for life. Expectations should not limit academics. For example some rural counties do not offer even an algebra class in high school as it is assumed that the graduates will work in the fields or slaughter houses. There is no way that that is fair to young people whose goal might be to get the heck out of areas like that.
There is simply no way to allow people to flow into areas that are not capable of supporting the population. The notion of letting companies build and build and sell and sell is a disaster waiting to happen. Reducing the number of residents allowed to stay in the state and the amount of farming and industry allowed is a huge part of the solution. The idea that people are allowed to reproduce endlessly combined with capitalism is a group suicide pact.
As far as a solution that might have some impact the building of salt to fresh water conversion plants can provide quite a bit of water to the farmers and homes in California. The downside is that it will raise property taxes and state income taxes to a point that poorer people will be driven out of the state.
My state is forced to dump enormous amounts of water into the ocean as we have no way to store water from our frequent monsoon like rains. But all the while we have entire cities undermined due to water being extracted from the earth. Right this moment the core of engineers is dumping trillions of gallons of water from Lake Okeechobee into the ocean to ward off flooding expected in the spring rains. How wonderful it could be if we could sell that excess, fresh water to states that need it.
This situation is an example of an economy that has never had a base. It is also proof of a system that has been corrupted. The congress will never pass laws that would correct the problem in that one way or another the congressmen are on the take. For example we could pass a law that bans complex contracts. To enforce that law we simply put a rule into play that if challenged as being a complex contract and the challenge is upheld the complaining party must always win a complete recovery plus legal fees. We can also continue to tax companies that try to offshore divisions of their business. For example if GM wants to make all car seats in Mexico we can add an import tax and also fine them if they do not pay American minimum wages. Further we should allow only individuals to contribute to political campaigns and not corporations and we should cap individual contributions at $100.. Many things could be done to have a rational and just society but they will not be done due to capitalism corrupting the entire political system.
A smart insurance company would insist on data gathering devices in all of their insured cars. Do you really want to insure a person who frequently fails to use a seat belt? Or should you insure a person who frequently violates speed limits or runs red lights?
I had a driver's license at the age of 14 and had no problems at all. As a young person I had zero tickets and zero accidents. At 16 I was a Western Union motorcycle messenger working 40 hours a week in all weather and under frequently very dangerous conditions. And I still had no problems other than a chronic lack of sleep from working full time while going to school and having some academic recognition.
Underneath the driving issues rests the simple fact that we have segments of society that are worse then useless. Many of the teens these days will simply end up in drug rehabs, jails, prisons and mental wards, or welfare receivers. The question is what can we do to turn defective youth into something resembling productive citizens. It seems as though once a teen starts to go sour it is usually a one way street.
It seems that we have a group of people who just insist upon applying theories of morality to every little situation. We still have people protesting abortions for example. Yet none of the abortion protesters take into account what our population level would be like if we had not allowed abortions. Obviously the offspring would be a huge number and might have been such a great burden that our nation could not survive. The same thing can be said about subjects like the Civil War. Without that war we surely would have now had several hundred million extra Americans. War is not completely negative. Pregnancy is not completely positive. Weak minds latching onto an absolute position simply demonstrate the absurdity of modern life. Yet we have numerous pumpkin headed citizens that fixate on really stupid issues and just make their entire life all about pushing some supposedly moral platform. As far as the human genome goes we can store it and revert back to unedited DNA any time we like. It is simply a matter of not allowing people to reproduce who have had unwanted consequences from edited genes.
