If you think Microsoft is evil and has a monopoly, boycott them. This is how you change things in a free market society.

I ask the reverse question how can you be pro-MS or even MS-agnostic. MS has proven it self to be a blight on the computing world. Do you expect it to be anything else in another market. Microsoft is only interested in taking your money not in the value they provide to you. Check out the license fees for .NET not only to developers but end users also. The are the only company I can think of that the user is expected to service the computer not the company service the user.

I refuse to give them money for my desktop which I actually need. There is no way I'm giving them money for something for entertainment. Even If the XBox is the greatest thing and the most advanced console ever I will NEVER buy one. People need to have the balls to say 'I don't like your business practices so I won't use your products'. VOTE WITH YOUR DOLLARS! Thats what companies understand. You can bash MS all day long but if at the end of the day you go to WalMart and buy an XBox MS will smile even bigger. Someone who supposely hates them is still inclined to give them money.

I hate the fact that people say it needs to have better this filters and importers. (My documents can't be imported well.) Microsoft is to blame for this. They have closed file formats and filters have to be reversed engineered. If they used a nice open format converting could be a snap. Of course then they would have to compete on the level is my (spreadsheet|editor|etc) better and easier to use than anyone elses. Its high time users demanded interoperiablity and the way you do this is you don't pony up the bucks until a company adds the features you want.

  10. Re:Justifiying Piracy?? on DirecTV to Pursue Pirates · · Score: 1

Its stupid FCC regulations that are causing this. When I moved I want to get a DirectTV Dish but I want my FOX and other locals to come from the same source (is this really to much to ask) but I live in Lafayette, IN. My local stations (beside CBS) come from Indianapolis you can get local stations on DirectTV in Indianapolis but the regions of local service are determined by the nielsen people. They have assigned lafayette a different region even though our local signal come from Indianapolis. So because the FCC decided to use some non-related source to determine local station broadcast I can't get local stations. The people in Indianapolis who could get a much better over-the-air signal than I can get in through the dish but not me. Does this make any sense, No! So I wrote my congress man about the FCC regulations, the reply I got back basically said I don't understand this technical stuff go read the FCC regulations (which I already had). Thus the only way from me to get local stations on the dish would be to pirate them! Which I don't do.
