People are getting disappointed with science fiction. We are already in the BTTF future, and there is no flying cars, we are finally getting a hint on how hard is to get out of our solar system, much more to get to another star, and the most accurate sci-fi predictions are dystopias like 1984 or disaster films.
At least Syfy is not as bad as History Channel, they got Continuum after all.
You dont need to have all your passwords in your head. Maybe a couple of the important ones, and the one of a password manager where you store all the others.. Better that password manager can run in your phone and in your computer, like i.e. KeePassX. Also, those passwords don't need to be hard to remember, just hard to guess/calculate, but could be easy to remember
But don't try to joke, suggest, or even imply the word "bomb" in an airport or a plane. Even mentioning a related joke on Twitter could give you troubles.
The "because" probably was more related to that he was a major voice behind the efforts of against sopa/pipa and other movements. That minor maybe crime was the excuse to get it and then try to make an example, you know, like rape charges by someone associated with the CIA. If you go against or scare them, somehow, even for a parking ticket, you will get into deep shit. Taking away a particular tool that they used once don't mean that they are stopped from using them, or any of the other alternatives.
Facebook has been creating a culture of security awareness for all mankind since 2005. Most people, don't know, is new to computers/tablets or technology in general, but slowly the entire world is getting a clue on what should not to be done in the network, not because boring teaching or manuals, but feeling in real life the consequences, because facebook.
This. If the OS they run is relevant then performance won't be as important as being able to run it fully in the OS of your choice because non language factors. Not sure about what real world they speak about, in mine seem to be a big percent of linux servers.
The speed of the medium could be similar or faster to copper one, while there are no heat nor interference, but, what about the convertion between electrical and optical information? That could slow down things, induce heat, limit bandwidth or require more power? And there is that little factor called cost.
Is not about knowing about them in advance, Oracle was aware of the previous bug in august.
Of course, is tempting to acuse Oracle of malice keeping the details of the bug for itself for giving them to government agencies for their next cyberweapons, after all, even Red October used a java bug for spreading. But Hanlon's Razor applies to Oracle too (unless their lawyers were involved, of course)
The ultimate reason for even caring about security for politicians/lobbyists/etc is money, specially short term one. For most problems the approach is either deny them or try to make profit enforcing measures for the non-lobbyist ones.
I wonder when the politicians campaigns will be honest and put as catchphrase "after us, the deluge"
More than a quiet place to read, why is needed that library? For most digital books for your own e-reader, computer or phone, an access point and knowing where to get the books (i.e. Project Gutenberg) is enough. Even lending, if you want to do it, can be done online.
Depend on each people that take extreme choices. Some could think that some being extremely punished for trivial things while others get promoted for killing or screwing up life, or taking most posessions of lots of innocent people, means that there are no hope nor future for them or most of us anyway. When one of the whishful lies that makes possible to live in society (i.e. the abstract idea of justice) is proved wrong, bad things could happen to a culture.
Was doing his job, and better than anyone else there. And got plenty of free time doing it that way, that is efficiency. If instead of coding letter by letter he took a public domain code (to avoid messing with licenses) that do the same would be a not so different situation, mainly changed the timing related the code.
But also gave to another party (that be the one that did his job is not relevant, that is overseas or in china in particular depend on your own prejudices) internal access to network/code/information without authorization. That is not scam, is a security breach, and shoudl be taken as seriously as all the other security breachs there (i.e. if he was so happy watching lolcats and visiting facebook and ebay probably others could have been doing it, and maybe sharing with the world even more internal/critical information, or downloading malware without being aware and so on)
And Nokia with Maemo/Meego, and Canonical with Ubuntu mobile, and so on. In the other hand, HP could join the effort having common api calls with Plasma Active, Sailfish and Ubuntu mobile. In fact, WebOS could too, and run basically the same apps in all those platforms (probably will require recompilation for/from BB). And a common ecosystem could provide a lot of apps for all the involved parties.
If the user interface really feels like the one in the N9 (look pretty much like it), should be pretty nice to use. And if have the apps you need and/or can run native android ones, i would say that is a better option. At least until Sailfish comes out.
The point of the article is a bit different. If you win using a computer then you are cheating.
Not sure if Big blue or whatever is the top chess computer by now consistently wins over top chess players, but at least not long ago humans used to consistently win over computers, so winning against computers is (still) not cheating per se.
The system is built to promote people that screw others and exploit things/people for themselves, and punish the ones that does things for others. Maybe is is capitalism, or human nature, don't know. But don't look like a sustainable culture in the long term.
and won't be fixed by itself. You can get 30 years for making public something that should be, get sued for millons of dollars for copying a few songs, sued for billons for doing common sense implementations. But if you screw the entire world economy (causing indirectly the dead of thousands of people) you get even more money, driving drunk have barely any legal consequences or carrying assault weapons in populated areas for "defense" is all ok (to put very few examples, is far worse than this). Justice is a nice meaningless (or with a real meaning that have no relation with what people think it means) word by now.
And you can't use the legal or political system to fix it, as not only they broken it, but would break it even more given the opportunity (i.e. the golden opportunity of asking them to fix it).
With a hopeless situation like this, im not surprised that people suicide themselves when this mess touch them.
... i can install linux on it and all hardware is supported by it (and not just one distribution, there are several touch optimized linux distributions/desktops that could be more fitting for you for that devices). Booting also android could be good too
... I can use (better yet, they have it installed) other pointing devices so i can choose when use the touchscreen
... could be turned into mostly a tablet for consumption only tasks
If only runs windows 8 are good but expensive paperweights for most uses.

If that critic (even for implied, not spoken words) causes a riot, then could qualify as imminent violence.

Jeffty is five too. Maybe in her TV you could see the 25th season of Star Trek TNG.

Wonder where we would be by now if in middle ages the church banned pencils because with them you could draw porn images.

The difference is minimal... offenders of imaginary property are jailed in, rich and powerful are bailed out. See? Barely any difference.
Maybe not literal ones, but are heading toward us, and are as unstoppable as the rock ones, putting politics dynamics into the equation.
Employees should not audit their bosses

Or maybe 9. Being random don't mean to be all different, or even to be evenly distributed.
