Don't confuse the tool with the application it is used to implement. Eclipse uses SWT/JFace but that is merely an implementation detail.
You can use any UI toolkit you want. Eclipse will help you develop AWT or Swing-based UIs just fine. Users of Eclipse do not have to learn a new UI toolkit if they are happy with Swing. Of course, many of us are not happy with Swing and welcome the availability of SWT.
I thought it was amusing just how poorly the C programs fared last year. However, remember the winner of the first contest? It was written in Cilk, which is a parallelizable version of C being developed at MIT.

No kiddin'. I was looking into high bandwidth connections recently and came up with zip. DSL: no plans. Cable: no plans. Satellite: possible, kinda expensive, windows only (i.e. "no plans"). ISDN is available at an outrageous per-minute charge. Fortunately, the bots are good enough to play a fun game of ctf, if you give the bot team some advantages:-)

I know someone who recently sold their domain name for $40k. They weren't selling a website, just the domain name. I was quite surprised that it was worth that much, but someone really wanted it.

My Linux CD key works fine on my Windows machine. Be sure you use lower-case characters when you enter the key and don't run both versions of Q3A at the same time.

There's a Windoes (sic) executable available for download at the usual places (fileplanet, cdrom, id -- if you can get to it). It is the "Jan1300" point release, and has some useful bugfixes. It also means those of us that bought the Linux version can now run it on Windoes (if we must, and I -must-).
Note: it is only available for Windoes at the moment. There is what looks like a beta of the Mac version -- not sure about that -- but nothing for Linux yet.

I bought mine at Fry's on Dec. 24. Nice tin box, too. You can order it direct from Loki, also.
As to running it on windows, grab the point release! It has been out for a day or two now. Copy the.pk3 file from the CD to your windows machine, install the point release executable, and go frag. (I did something similar to that but not -excatly- that so no promises.)

Version numbers are not terribly informative. In many companies they are nothing more than a marketing tool. Mandrake may have a cool explanation for going to 7, but there's no rule that says they have to stick to some one else's scheme.

I don't care who owns the transmission, if it's live, I want to see what's there!
I agree! Once live transmissions begin to be regularly mutilated there will be a complete loss of trust by the audience. At least, that part of the audience that actually engages their brains. Thoses who are watching solely for entertainment will probably be content with the doctored images.

Not necessarilly. I live in Oregon. I was once offered a job to telecommute to Silicon Valley (which I declinced). They weren't going to give me any space at the home office. At most, I would have been expected to fly down once a month for a couple days and that time would be spent in conference rooms and other people's offices. My every-day work environment would have been entirely my responsibility.

NPR offered another take on Any Given Sunday. Consider it a commentary on the movie business. Stone, like the coach, is an old-timer trying to do the right thing -- make a good movie (or build a winning team). But he is caught between the producers (owners) and the actors (players). I won't say more since I haven't seen the movie yet, but the analogy is enough to make me want to see it.
My doctor told me to start wearing a wrist splint while working. My wrist and the base of my thumb were very swollen. The splint actually made things worse. My reaction to feeling something in my palm is to grrasp it. Therefore I was constantly flexing my fingers and agitating the injury.
I decided to try Hand-Eze gloves. They are fingerless gloves -- there is a picture at the link. They work for me. I have practically no problem now, and I don't even wear the gloves anymore.
Another thing I did was to start using my left hand for mousing. I'm right-handed so that took a bit of work. The only drawback now is that every time a new quake comes out I have to reconfigure the key bindings.:-)
According to Roblimo, Debbie thought it was funny, as it was intended to be. He mentioned this in a post that was a reply to a reply (...) to one of the earliest posts. It takes too long to reload the page for me to look it up, but it was something around #284, I think.
His main point in that post was that this was intended as humor, and a lot of people didn't get it.
Another interesting URL is the ICFP Programming Contest. The preliminary results report that two of the finalists used Haskell. None of the finalists used C.
I grabbed it yesterday (before./efx set in:). It works fine on my old P133 box, except that it's kinda slow on that machine. The main limitation seems to be that it is Intel-only, and IBM doesn't mention that on its website.
I thought the events that preceeded the release were quite interesting. About a year ago one VAJ user set up web page containing a petition to get IBM to create a Linux version of VAJ. About a thousand people signed it, then he sent it to IBM. The amazing thing is that IBM then did something about it! I'm impressed that so many people signed the petition, and that IBM responded.

Wasn't that 10-50x improvement claim made relative to the interpreted VM (no JIT)? That's about what they're delivering.
