I read years ago a column by Isaac Asimov in which he proposed such a system. The basic unit would be the day since it's part of human body internal rythms and it's expected to be constant when humans go around the space and find bodies with different rotation periods.
it's a sad comment on society (especially geek society here on/.,) that you're more likely to find someone fluent in klingon and tengwar than esperanto.
Well, Slashdot types speak English natively or are polyglots so they don't feel the language barrier much.
On the other hand, how many of the Esperanto speakers know at least two languages more? I'd say lots of them.
perhaps half-a-million messages were forwarded by my machine.
Interesting. Could you tell how many protest from the spammed were addressed to you? Were they polite?
I ask because sometimes I think I am the only one who complains (politely) to the open relay. I received a nice apology once.

What is the point of spamprotecting your address if you reveal it in the body?
you know those places where you are asked for an email address and you just *know* you are going to get spammed senseless for providing it, but you must to get a login or pwd or whatever?
very few real-world alphabets have been based on the relationships of sounds
The only alphabets I know that don't stop at the phoneme level and reflect phoneme features (as voiced / unvoiced) are, apart from Tolkien ones, Shavian (a proposal bespoken by GB Shaw for a new alphabet for English) and Korean Hangul (its writing can be analysed as syllables, phonemes or phoneme features, neat). Are there another ones?
I read that Tolkien was inspired because of the relationship between B and P and C and G. He started thinkling that adding a mark could tell voiced from unvoiced.
Tolkien was a devout christian (he converted CS Lewis to christianity)
Catholic, from memory he converted Lewis from tepid Anglican to Catholic.
They even suggest that Gandalf was an "Angel" more than a "wizard"
Elves are more angelic (long lives,...), the Valar being high-rank anges (Thrones and Dominations are the Christian names, methinks). The Istari are sorta archangels.
the propaganda that had streamed into the USSR was that they'd be better off if they were a capitalist democracy. Well, now they are a capitalist democracy now and they aren't better off. Their economy - such as it was - was going down the toilet anyway.
You can't call capitalism what they practice in the former USSR. (Well, I don't know about the Baltic republics) I have heard those systems called kleptocracies ("rule by robbers"). The privatization was directed onto powerful politicians and their friends. State monopolies have become private monopolies. It's hard to tell politicians, mafia and businessmen. I read that if somebody wants to abide byt the Russian tax laws, they should pay >100% of the earnings.
Rule of law, fair trials, and equal opportunity are part of capitalism. The former USSR is far from that.
European ex-communist countries can be a better example of transition to capitalism. (Excluding former Yugoslavia).
I'd say that WPS is the least robust part of OS/2. OS2*.INI files get corrupted if you don't use costless third-party WPSTools regularly. And don't put too many shadows around.
While I applaud Security Systems efforts to attempt to market this OS to the public
It is going to be difficult if people can't even remember that their name is Serenity Systems.
If a nasty bug appears in any of the code, IBM isn't likely to fix it, and I'd assume that OS/2 fixpaks won't work with this (last I heard, they were going to charge subscriptions to receive them, anyway).
From my understanding, a subscription to eCS with "Upgrade Protection" (?) gives you the right to receive a fixpack CD on a quarterly basis while IBM's Convenience Package sends only yearly CDs so it is better in this way. (You can also download them if you paid for the passwords).
I understand that Serenity aggregates OS/2 users so that they are another of the big customers that IBM pays attention to.
You are not guaranteed a fix anyway. But, unless you are Enormous-Grossebank Gmbh, this is your best chance to get IBM to listen to you.

niche market for it.
I hope that not all the meanings of "niche" will be explored.
On a frivolous side, there will be lots of kids with laptops that the will carry and show around. And they will see them as a gift, so they won't hold them sacred.
I expect a lot of customization in the cases. People pasting logos, pictures and spraying the machines. And some may even be interesting to look at!
I wonder why this event wasn't shown on Roman coins?
Probably the Romans didn't know of Nola (No, I haven't read the article). But do Roman coins document Pompeii and Herculanum? How? (Or have I misunderstood your post?)
Others have said that Chinese hackers mainly introduce support for Chinese in other packages.
I think there is also a communication barrier. I sometimes find nice Japanese software that is outside of the Western distribution circles. The documentation is in Japanese or broke English. And while well known in Japan it's unrecognized in Western societies.

What?
Thank you

Anyway, for geeky stuff try ESR's Esperanto mode for tengwar.

You can use sneakemail.com if you trust them.

So there are 4 Amigas but no BeOS and no WinME. It seems that your mechanism throws them together in that big Unknown.
recognizing that Portugese and Spanish aren't the same language.
I wonder why, while Spanish speakers usually require just one Spanish version, the Brazilian and the Portuguese ask for diferent translations.
Are both dialects so different?
to bring a few copies of BSD just in case.
BSD? That with a picture of a little devil? To monks? Vade retro Satana!!
There is a part of the Silmarillion inspired by the rape of Kullervo from Kalevala.

It was superseded by Bundesrepublik Deutschland many years ago. They had funny cars, though.
Looking at the context, they are claiming that lots of people answered, yet Google only keeps 5 posts in the thread.
It seems that the archives are very incomplete.

remember the tabs for the options? They were on the side and hideous
Since Warp 4 (1996?), they are on top and colourful. There are still applications with the old style though.
If you couldn't even get an OS/2 PC pre-installed from IBM's PC division,
I read somewhere that MS threatened to stop mass-discounting Windows to IBM. But I didn't heard about it being mentioned in the trial.
Can somebody confirm?
The WPS was rock solid
I'd say that WPS is the least robust part of OS/2. OS2*.INI files get corrupted if you don't use costless third-party WPSTools regularly. And don't put too many shadows around.
But it also is the best part of OS/2. A pity.

How? The wood?
And othes like The Day of an American Journalist in 2889. Verne predicts, among other, colour photography, videophones and streaming audio news, sort of.
Danke.
