  1. XP doesn't allow VNC on VNC, No Longer Orphaned · · Score: 2

How is the future looking now that the EULA in Windows XP disallows remote administration tools other than Microsoft's, if I get it right.

Isn't the main purpose of VNC to control Windows machines? (You have other alternatives for other platforms).

  2. In a vise on Flirting With Mac OS X · · Score: 1

As a long time trackpad user, you'd have to squeeze my testicles in a vise to get me to use a laptop with the orange knob right in the middle of the keyboard. I've tried it, repeatedly, and it sucks. It's an infuriatingly useless device.

mccalli: Whereas I hate trackpads and never use the damned things if possible.

I like Dell's approach on the Inspiron I have - put both on the machine, let the user decide.

You are not meaning the testicles, are you?

    People ARE violent

There's a degree of nature in it, but violence has a lot of cultural.

Compare the Japanese before and after Second World War. Same about the Jews. There is a sharp difference in acceptance of violence, and it's not caused by a change in their brains or DNA.

  15. Ralsky goes to China on 80% Of Incoming E-mail At Hotmail Is Spam · · Score: 2

Oh! I receive a small quantity of spam. (Alas it's on my main acount which has a daily quota on number of messages).

I learnt that it was related to Ralsky's business. Recently I researched where the website of recent spam was and I found things like www*.fastwebsnet.com which is registered in China. I suspect now why.

On the other hand, I complained to Hotmail because some of the messages used Hotmail From: addresses and they replied with something that seemed a not fully automated answer. In one case they told they deleted the spammer address (a very small victory, but good on Hotmail's part) and in the other the address was fake.

Surprising from a Microsoft company. (Hey, I sound like astroturf. Have you seen my mobile phone with camera?)

They even sent messages to evaluate their quality of response. I left when the form asked for a mail address. They are evaluating a unique interaction prompted by my sending email to abuse at hotmail.com and they need that _I_ type my address!?

And as more and more Chinese domains are blocked at the border

Funny, the barbarians censor Chinese sites and China censor barbarian sites. The Wall works both ways.

  16. Can't one change copyright? on NeoNapster's NeoAudio Rips Off CDex · · Score: 3, Interesting

I understand that the reason of the icompatibility between GPL and BSD with ad clause code is because (old) BSD forces you to mark the copyright of Berkeley regents.
I understand that GPL doesn't involve copyright strings. The reason is that if you take small pieces of code from 100 GPL projects, it's uncomfortable to include 100 notices of copyright.

Am I wrong? Must (legally) the author that copies bits of GPL code include the copyright of the previous authors?

I thought it was just a thing of manners and reputation, not legal duty.

Privoxy (formerly Internet Junkbuster Proxy Stefan-Waldherr-style) has options to block popup windows or windows without features, as well. It's multiplatform but the Win32 version has even a GUI.

So essentially he was hired to be a professional liar and shill for the company? Brilliant. How does he sleep at night knowing he was paid to be a professional liar? People looking to get actual real-world advice about a product before they spend their hard earned money are being lied to by a PR guy in disguise... that just reaks of immorality.

Actually his spiritual director encouraged him. Since the shill was previously a lawyer, Father O'Connor thought that this job was not so sinful.
