Before the bashing begins, remember that Apple has to protect its intellectual property in these little matters in order to protect it when the big boys start violating Apple's TOS or IP.
Wrong.
Copywrites and Patents can be selectively enforced without losing the rights to them. Trademarks cannot. This is not a trademark issue, hell, it's not even a copyright issue!
The original article which is the target of the Cease and Decist never modified the software, never distributed it, never circumvented any restrictions, never decompiled, disassembled, reverse engineered, created a derivitive work or even agreed to the Apple EULA *on purchase* as the lawyer letter said.
Most people still can't get cable modem or DSL.
Those who can face unreliable service, high prices, and shamefully bad customer service and support.
Maybe that's how it is in the US, but up here in Canada my ADSL has seen only 1 outtage in 6-7 months, and TS has been fine all twice that I've called them.:P
Besides that, it's $42 Canadian (after taxes) a month for 1mbit, which is about $25 US.
ps. Citrix is a UNIX client that allows you to connect and run a Windows desktop in an X window.
How come you don't use VNC for this reason?

Rune is pretty fun, but the reviewer has issues.

Rune for Linux Review
·
· Score: 5, Insightful
Many comments made this reviewer look really stupid in my eyes, these comments were:
Sound: The SoundBlaster Live! is the soundcard of choice. And it's cheap too.
There are many soundcards better than the SB Live which have solid Linux support.
That's pretty much it. If you don't own an NVIDIA-based card, then I can't help you out since I don't own anything else.
This from a review site? What really do they review?
Heavy Metal: FAKK 2 was the first game I ever picked up that was in third-person, with Rune being the second. So, you can no doubt believe me when I say that my eyes actually hurt a bit until I got used to the gameplay.
Are you 15 years old? Never played Tomb Raider, Diablo, (War|Star)craft, any EA sports games, Oni, Shadows of the Empire, MDK, Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, Armagetron, Tuxracer etc? Exactly why should I trust the opinion of someone who DOESN'T PLAY MANY GAMES?
Replacing the Soundblaster Platinum with a Hercules Game Theater XP yeilds more input/output options and better sound at a lower price. (minus remote control, which hardly gets used.)
Also the case... neon light? $200+ for a case when a $30 case would have been just as good? Ugh...
Replacing the GF3 with a Radeon would have been a good choice aswell...
Only negative I've found is that I need to have the Win2k box selected while it boots, otherwise the wheel mouse isn't detected... the rest of the mouse works, just not the wheel.
8MB RAM and 2MB flash seems a bit small. Doubling the RAM wouldn't be very expensive, but you'd see a large performance increase (speaking from my work with the Agenda VR3).
You can't compare the two. With Palm devices the RAM is actually used to store apps and data, flash is strictly for the PalmOS (LinuxDA in this case) and the batteries keep a trickle charge going to the RAM to prevent data loss when the unit is off. No improvement in speed would be had by doubling the RAM, since most Palm apps are very small (90% under 150k, most under 75k) the 8 megs of RAM is more than sufficient.
I'm playing with a Palm III right now which only has 2 megs of RAM, I've only got it half full with all the games I've been putting on it.:)
And? They wrote the SDK completely which means they can license it however they want. The Linux source for the PDA can be downloaded without that agreement though.
This kind of activity is already covered under existing conspiracy laws (conspiracy to commit (murder|crime|etc)) so why must we introduce yet another law?
Legislators seem to think that just because the internet is "different" they need to duplicate the law books for it, or maybe they're just trying to find new and novel ways to justify their jobs.
But don't you think that there are better ways of teaching programming than encouraging unnecessary violence? There is enough sex and violence present in the media already without intermingling it with education.
It's a game, he either learns to code while killing "non-living" robots, or doesn't learn to code while killing humans playing counter-strike.
And everyone knows that video games *do not* contribute to violent acts. I have been playing violent video games for years, and over those years my violent tendancies have deminished.
At the time the graphics in halo, when they were first shown, were absolutely stunning, cutting edge and amazing considering at the time I had a Voodoo 2.
Now I get better graphics than Halo on my Radeon with games which are already out. Looking at these screen shots again, they look horribly jagged. I think bungie missed the boat on this one.
They have said that Hotmail should not be trusted to store valuable mail (and that I should use outlook instead -- the damn software responsible for SirCam in the first place).
Hrmm, lets see, a free service with multi-millions of accounts running IIS, I wouldn't trust it to store my valuables, why do you?
They think this is my problem, and I should upgrade my anti-virus software (I've repeatedly assured them that I've been WinDoh's free for four years -- I can't find McAfee's Linux download site).
This is your problem, see quote number one above.
They say their anti-virus protection is sufficient -- yet I rec'd two more SirCam laced spams today. They won't let me download the contents (even though it won't hurt my Linux system).
This is the kind of protection I, and the rest of the world, would like. Able to see the email, not able to infect myself with the crappy attachment, oh, it's SirCam, .
If you've been running Linux for 4 years you should surely know by now how to use mutt, pine, or even evolution if you so desire. I would suggest not trusting valuable information to free - error prone - services and start downloading your email straight to your computer via that pop3/imap account your ISP gives you.
PPPoE is acceptable for the majority of the unwashed masses. However, if you want to do anything really creative (and have an inkling of what you are doing) it starts to really get in the way.
Such as?
PPPoE connections are the same as any other network connections, you just use, gasp, PPP. I have PPPoE and I cannot think of ONE THING I cannot do on the net that someone without PPP can.
What a childish moderation.

I remember that every time I talk to tech support or a clueless code monkey...
I work in tech support, and if I had moderator points I'd have modded you flamebait.
There are some great technical minds working in tech support for reasons beyond their control.

What did he do? Wrote an article on how to do it.

No, machine readable. They could distribute it on punch cards if they wanted to.

Here we go:
globalize (glb-lz)
tr.v. globalized, globalizing, globalizes
To make global or worldwide in scope or application.
In this case it means trade and government.
Now that wasn't so hard, was it Katz? Did it really justify an article this size?

Prank calls and telemarketing are not illegal, unless it's harassing (calling multiple times).

Bungie didnt have much of a choise about releasing Halo. They were bought by microsoft.
Gee, Bungie had the choice on whether to sell to MS or not... I'd call that "much of a choise[sic]".

He wasn't arrested for speaking.
Code is speech.
The finger was pointed at him by Adobe - a corporation.
And your government buzzed into action like the little lapdogs they are:
Adobe: JUMP!
US Govt: How high master?
Corporations pushed for the DMCA.
Your government passed it...

You're right on the money for the most part, however lets make a little modification:
Who has losses that arise from code red?
ISP's and individuals/companies paying for bandwith used.
Who causes this mess?
Microsoft who left a remote buffer overflow in the 5th version of their IIS software
Who can sue who?
People who have losses because of gross negligence.
