The environment in the late 90s that created the increase quota's is gone.
i beleive the parent said this was about to expire soon anyway.
The new reality is that qualified American workers are having trouble finding jobs. I personally know a dozen or so highly qualified people who can not find work.
according to the parent new visas are not being granted: The limits of H1b visa are not even reached and in the current market is almost impossible for a company to obtain a DOL certification for their recruitment on the position anyway.
secondly, your statement slightly contradicts itself. a company saving money would thus have more profit and thus more income tax revenue. sure the employee dollars aren't being taxed, but those people are going to have to make a living somehow (once their jobs are exported) and that earning will still be taxed. our government takes a cut of money whenever it changes hands, and sometimes when it doesnt.
quoting what you are talking about, with my emphisis added: I would insist that my employees speak English natively or speak it well enough that I can't tell they are not native speakers.
no what he's saying that i shouldnt be able to tell they are not native english speakers. this is very different from..being able to effectivley communicate with them as with any other native speaker.
i have indian friends whom i understand perfectly-they have accents, but i have no trouble understanding them. under the parents conditions they would not be acceptable, under yours they would be.
hey dont confuse the loud minority with the rest of us. for what it's worth, i'm about as white as it gets, and i am glad india is adopting linux. if the us follows this trend, our tax dollars can be better spent on things other than license fees.
i also have quite a few indian friends, and i'm a big fan of the food. i'm also trying to learn hindi for fun and because i think it would be fun to work in india some day.
just remember that the people you are seeing here dont represent all of us.
six or so. i know that each ide controller supports only two devices, but i would assume something has been done to address this. when i said a more _native_ solution, i was referring to something that delt with these issues. i dont have a need for high preformance, i just need the space. even if i had to run 3 cables out of my computer to an external box, i could do that.
it just seems like someone should have addressed this. i could just use a scsi box and these adapters, but at $100 a piece, it seems rather expensive.
kinda on topic. i was wondering if there was a little more native solution for having a box full of ide drives connected to a computer with an external ide interface? right now i have a box with my scsi stuff (tape, mo drive, cdr, cdrw, etc), but i use ide drives because i just cannot beat the price. i have the scsi stuff connected to my computer with a scsi cable.
since putting more than 3 hard drives in my case makes things a little crowded, i was wondering if there was an alternative similar to what i've done with the scsi stuff.
i went looking for a list of MPAA members a while back, but i couldnt find one. the riaa was nice enough to put their list on their website, but i haven't been able to find a list of the mpaa members. i know the big ones, but i wanted to know the smaller compaines they own.
but it pisses me off when i pay $8 to watch 3 hours of commercials. the last movie i went to had commercials before the previews. i really dont like paying money to see advertisements. then when you watch the movie you see product pacements everywhere.
then why did the person from home depot list "support if it [home depot] decided to use cross-platform hardware" as a reason for choosing windows? that was just a silly statement and suggests the person talking doesnt know what the hell is going on.
Jill Taylor, a director of engineering, said Home Depot considered Linux but settled on the "more mainstream" Windows operating system. She said that with Linux, the company would have faced issues such as a lack of drivers and support if it decided to use cross-platform hardware.
this is pretty funny. i wonder if by cross-platform she means dell vs. gateway. really though, there is alot of support for linux (ibm, redhat) if you want it.
It's not like you get restitution for when the cops pull you over, give you a warning, and let you go. Though technically you were detained for a few minutes while they ran your registration. What happened to Dmitry is the same thing but on a larger scale.
actually cops normally only pull you over if you've broken the law (speeding, failure to yield, running a stop sign). it's up to their discression of weather or not to give you a ticket. giving you a "warning" normally means
you were speeding and i'm choosing not to give you a ticket
and not:
you didn't break the law, but i wanted to pull you over "just for fun".
it's their way of encouraging you to follow the law without costing you money.
next time you get pulled over, you should demand a ticket so you can be vendicated in court. then you can hire a lawyer sue the city saying your civil rights have been violated.
don't get me wrong, sometimes cops pullover people just to harass them-this happens especially to people of color. if you are one of those people, you should push it in court. if enough people complain about an officer, something will eventually happen.
a....and a government and military that will do whatever it takes to protect those things.
b. South America... don't have the strong governments necessary to protect economic interests.
well to a large degree b. can be attributed to a. the us has a tendancy to "encourage" corrupt people to stay in office because we can control them. take for example the recently failed coup in venezuela. this was a coup which our government supported. we are talking about overthrowing the democratically elected president of a soverign country.
our government has the gall to look down apon dictators of other countries when we've happily supported dictators when it was convenient for us.
he kinda alludes to savannah when he talks about other people picking up the last opensource version of sf and going with it but he doesnt address it directly. i'm wondering if the savannah people and the sf-debian folks are the same/similar people. i think it would be good for the savannah folks to work with him on this.
does anyone know if he and the savannah peeps are working together on this?
i spend most of the day in front of a computer and i listen to music with headphones. unlike some, i really cannot tell the difference between mp3's and the original. i've even spoken with blind people who could not tell the difference between the two on decent sound equipment.
did you even bother to read the article? if you had you would realize that tim o'reilly, you know the head of o'reilly, doesnt consider them to be lost sales.
Anyway in the current copyright laws copying is defined like stealing
i'm afraid you are incorrect, at least in the united states.
Copyright apologists often use words like ``stolen'' and ``theft'' to describe copyright infringement. At the same time, they ask us to treat the legal system as an authority on ethics: if copying is forbidden, it must be wrong.
So it is pertinent to mention that the legal system--at least in the US--rejects the idea that copyright infringement is ``theft.'' Copyright apologists are making an appeal to authority...and misrepresenting what the authority says.
The idea that laws decide what is right or wrong is mistaken in general. Laws are, at their best, an attempt to achieve justice; to say that laws define justice or ethical conduct is turning things upside down.
alot of songs i like are on. this is because i have alot of cd's by the same artist. i keep all of my music in mp3 format because of convenience. as a result most i have alot of mp3's of the same artist in the same directory. i also tend to load up the entire directory at a time and listen to it on random. if you were to ask me what cd the current song i'm listening to came from, i probably couldnt answer you.
keep in mind that i own the cd's it's just that the title of the cd is not that important to me. i typically find a new artist, either through the net or from friends, and i'll purchase 2 or 3 cd's by that artist. i normally dump the songs straight to mp3 and put the original cd's in a case. so i never think too hard about the different albums.
i dont think you actually relinquish your rights to the software. i think you _share_ your rights with the fsf. this basically gives them the right to defend license violations. i have no idea how many problems they will respond to, but it is in their interests to defend the gpl.
i seem to remember that the fsf encourages people to sign over their copyright to the fsf. so that in the event of a gpl violation, they will be able to take care of the legal matters.
help companies protect their properties
i think the poster was referring to things like intelectual property, which we have great protections for and countries like india do not.
your interpretation is interesting if not paranoid.

except in this country corporations use tax shelters to avoid paying taxes.

while i like to bash cnn, if you read the bottom of the article it looks something like this:
Copyright 2002 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
while cnn chose to print it, the majority of the blame falls on the ap in my opinion.

i would imagine winning is better, now he can go back to russia an live a happy life. sounds kinda funny when you read that sentence doesn't it :).

google doesnt have a taco bell banner ad on top, and the hotbot color scheme is much better on your eyes.
