There are severe nurse shortages in the Canadian Health care system as well, all this time we hear how all of them are leaving for greener pastures (US of A). Now the USA has nurse shortages too? Where the hell are they going... Mars?
The answer seems obvious now. Nobody wants to be a nurse anymore. This sort of hare-brained scheme is not going to help make the profession more appealing.
What people need now is stability. Give them a stable pay, predictable and reasonable hours of work -- stability. Being able to forecast your pay and work hours months in advance goes a long way in helping determine what you can afford (mortgage, car etc).
As a bidding nurse, how can they decide on buying a house if they don't even know how many hours they'll be working next week never mind the next 3-5 years.
IANAEconomist, but seems to me that trend of contractual, work-today-laid-off-tomorrow is not helping the economy, as people under these regimes will not be spending on those big ticket items that help fuel the economic growth.
[ GigsVT (208848] If I read a German tech news site frequently, I wouldn't be surprised if they opened a politics section that talked only about German politics, I'd expect it!
And then all the Austrians and Swiss would start to bitch about how the site is so German-centric, blah blah blah
[StalinsNotDead] Just because the politics section's first story is American-centric doesn't mean it won't have any non-American articles.
Then what's with the ol' Red White'n Blue theme, then... as for the wager, I wouldn't be suprised to see lots of blokes and canucks on here...
Sausalito, CA (AP) - The Sausalito Cetacean Institute is sad to report the disappearance of Gillian Taylor, staff biologist at the Institute. Dr. Taylor was involved in a recent controversy over the release of George and Gracie, two of the Institute's humpback whales. She was last seen with two friends, one of which was also involved in a small incident at the whale aquarium.
Sausalito Police is treating this as a cult-related abduction. Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Dr. Taylor and her friends, a male caucasian, approx 45 years of age and an asian man also in the forties, dressed in ceremonial robes, is invited to contact the tip line.
Seems to me the easy way to prevent CAM copies would be to project powerful patterns of IR right on the projection screen. Since humans can't see the IR, eyes would be unaffected. The portable camera's CCD would be flooded with the IR garbage and would get an unviewable copy.
The easy way to circumvent would be to use an IR filter. Don't know if it would also affect the quality as well.
Most PocketPC have their "My Documents" folder in main memory (volatile RAM). If an crewmember forgets to dock their PDA or a battery fails, they may lose all their documents. There is a secondary battery, but it's not perfect.
Workarounds:
1. Stock each PDA with a 1GB mem card
2. Dock early and often (automatic backup on docking)!
3. Wifi to the ISS servers.
Finally an obligatory Trekkie comments: They're more like PADDs not Tricorders, you insensitive p'tahks!
- Trusted Sites has Java, Scripting and ActiveX enabled
- Internet has Java, Scripting and ActiveX DISABLED
- Restricted Sites has EVERYTHING DISABLED
Any site you do not explicitly trust will be rendered in strict-HTML only. No java, no jscript, no flash, no embedded crap. That would be the Google replacement search engine for IE (^E)
is a firmware upgrade that installs a bittorrent client and you don't even need a PC anymore.

This one's been done. Time to map out our second favorite our favorite fictitious establishment...
Alien Nazis from outer space (Enterprise cliffhanger)? What were they thinking?!?

The other problem is that the 'Politics.slashdot.org' section should be politicsusa.slashdot.org
Funny, but it's being done: Slow Scan TV software
Obviously you've never heard of bittorrent ...

"Because it's there." -- Alpinist George Mallory when asked why he wanted to climb mount Everest.
Nope. That'd just rile up the tinkerers even more.
Silly me too.
In short, scs.yahoo.com:5050 is no good.
is GOOD ...
I'm getting some 400KBps peaks
File this patent in the "Press shift key to bypass copy protection" bucket.

Lower right, next to Springfield harbor.
Guess we'll find out soon enough.
5/8 (0.625) != 8.5/11 (0.7727) != 11/17 (.647) != 17/22 (0.7727)
However 8.5/11 == 17/22 (4:1)
The point is you don't need to trim ISO paper sized

Oops. Too late.
I am Inigo Montoya. You killed my network. Prepare to die.
So can you point out to where the source is at COZ I sure as hell can't find it. How can it be open source if we can't find the source anywhere???
Okay. Where can I download the source code? Coz acns.sourceforge.net and acns.freshmeat.net don't seeem to work.
