You need to repeatedly over the years lets say every 3-5 years take a hard look at which storage technology is cheap, durable, likly to be around in 3-5 years time etc (you get the picture) and if needed migrate all your stuff.
The way I understand it is that to qualify for errata beyond a year is to purchase an enterprise product which gives you errata for 5 years (~3 full, 5 security). $350/server buys you ES and a year of rh(e)n, later you only need to pay for rh(e)n wich I belive costs $60/server? year. please correct me if I'm wrong
The prospect of e-cash has never really apealed to me. The prospect of havnig a card I insert into a machine at the store which would then store the recipt would be nice. Later I could view my recipts at home and delete the ones that are no longer useful. There could even be write only mode to ensure that the store do not download all of my recipts.
I just want to add that the political party of the education minster might be called 'Vaenstre' (Left) but is actually on the right wing. I was suposedly to the left when it was formed.
I just pointing out that it is not a communist conspiracy
One thing I have alwas wondered about the type of fuel cells running on 'regular' fuels like/m?ethanol/ or gasoline. Where does the non hydrogen matter go, do you change fuel, or do you keep an extra tank for waste fuel? As far as I understand only with direct hydrogen oxygen fuel cells is the exhaust destilled water, all other types have nasteier waste products. Please enlighten me.
IIRC only seconds are a SI unit. Minutes, hours and days ar auxilluary (there really needs to be an CmdrTaco button to help with spelling, while posting:). This implies that we use the normal prefixes in conjunction with seconds ie. 1 ks for 16.67 minutes and so on. Convert it to DHMS if you need to get a feel of how log a time is and frankly in daily life there is no need for a change.
When I was atteding engineering school we, on a daily basis used things like nF and MOhms after a while one got rether jaded and did not realize that from atto to exa there is an enormous span of magnitude, but after applying it to time the magnitude issues quickly became obvious. 3 Gs is approx a centrury just as an example.
Finally, it is the Unix/Linux way of counting time how can it be wrong:)
One of the biggest problems with this design however, is the outlet on the bottle was usually above water. To acheive optimal propulsion with this method, the best thing is to make sure the jet is below the water line.
Wrong. The velocity of the exhaust is the key. After all F=ma, right? It is of no consequense what the exhaust is "pushing" against.
I recently read about the vasimr engine, a plasma drive running on helium and elctricity. I was thinking what if we tried to combine a fusion plant (it uses plasma and produces helium exhaust) with the vasimr and we should have a efficient impulse drive (just to throw in som st techno babble)
I know fusion plants are not yet mature technology:)
This I call progress. I am convinced that the next generation mainstream satelites will use tape measure antennas, not actual tape measures but especially crafted satelite antenna tape. It will sell for say 10x what these guys spent on theirs but it will still be cheaper than motorized deployment.
Now, if only we could slash launch cost by as much
I have fantasies about some thing like that. I was going to base it on WinME just to get it working (at least for the 1.0 ver anyway). My plans involve a ATI AIW a big HD and and DVD player. I plan on grabbing the tv 'schedule' from off the net and program it by show instead of VCR style by start stop time, not as nice as TiVO but it would suffice. I currently live in sweden so to my knowledge TiVO is not an option. I will also be able to play (game/mp3/ogg/DVD/c64/DivX)s. The big problem I see in this is interfacing to the video record software of the AIW

How about linux on PDAs? There is some sort of port to the iPAQ/Itsy but whats included whats left out? What other PDA/handlheld related open-source software/projects are there? Does anybody have answers?
As the air is so thin up there the shock waves normally associated with breaking the sound barrier are not that severe. Mach measures speed realitve to sound and the speed of sound varies with preassure and temperature so I am not sure what mach 1.5 actually means in m/s in this case.
I totally agree 'not an issue'. What puts the OSS kernels apart from all other kernels out there? The capability to start configuring before compiling and that the end consumer has this possibility. so use it. If that means several different schedulers fine, as long as they all have the same interface to other parts. #ifdef is not the only show in town.
What exactly do you think Unreal will gain if run on 64bit hardware?
My question is, why not just blow it all away with a grand 256 bits? By this I don't mean 256 bit instructions, but a 256 bit wide bus, 256 bit integer processing capabilities, 256 bit vector-style bulk integer computations, etc...
Size. more specifivly [die|mobo]size and hence the (size of the) cost
For the HD drive mechanism is such that the heads are connected to the arms, which are connected to the servo, which is located in the center, while the plate rotates around it.
Does not sound like drives I've seen. Could you draw me a diagram?
My idea is that you use multiple head assemblies, arms, servos and all. Then you could do "threaded" I/O, one thread reading at one place and the other writing at another etc. etc.
And such a creature would be rather expensive, especially if you take into account that the controller software will probably be a lot hairier.
I have been pondering the idea of having more than one set of heads on a HD it would double the transferrate and do wonders to the avg. seek time. I understand that the heads represent a sizable portion of the cost of a HD so maybe thats why we haven't seen any such creatures. As dual-head drives would cost aproximatly twice as much as a regular drive but two regular dirves would also double the space when RAIDed.
Deprived of sulphur the algea can't respirate in the usual fashion and switches over to auxillary power and that process bleeds off the hydrogen gas. It is regular algae not genetically altered. So if you let them out they'll just live merrily ever after. No more and no less harm to anyone than algae otherwise are.
What do you mean by Net 2500 or VS 2200/2300?

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

neo: There is no sequel

David Turek, sure sounds vulcan to me. IBM employing vulcans, fascinating.
Oh yes we want to encourage it.

Knowledge is power.
Makes us who has taken the red pill all the more powerfull. Information longs to be free, but if someone doesn't want to see the truth
Makes perfect sense, who gains on increased internet trafic?

I haven't used slackware for quite some time but back then the default hostname
was darkstar maybe these astronomers should recycle that name

I'm definetly intrested. It's just that I live in Finland, which adds some complexity. But I'm definetly intrested.
