It does tell you during the setup up. The first thing I did was turn on all the location stuff and I did so KNOWING that it would be sending that stuff. It isn't hidden but made rather blatant by Google.
It got my hopes up too. My first reaction was, "How'd they manage to pull THAT off." And then I read the article. Definately need a new name, maybe Project Hercules or something like that.
Unfortunately, the original submitter did not read all the way through, it is actually $4.25 Million that they are getting. If you don't believe me, take a look at the last paragraph of the article.

Unfortunately that method doesn't change the surface area of the wing, only the shape. The method described in the article changes both.
