I don't like the idea of a corporate master (and libertarian ideologue) being in charge of my kid's education. My kids don't need a curriculum emphasizing the importance of not taxing the rich and giving unlimited H1B visas to our corporate oligarchs.
Too many people want the world to be what they believe it to be, not what it actually is. They're angry that the world stubbornly refuses to conform to their own delusions.
Too many "scientists" are more concerned with the next big grant than with doing quality research. And getting grants is often a lot more about politicking and ass-kissing than making a case for why you actually deserve it.

I would consider Wired the lowest form of PR-disguised-as-journalism among all the big name tech journals. I consider them even lower than gaming rags like IGN. Just two of their many problems:
1) They WORSHIP Apple, and I mean WORSHIP. Even the most innocuous of Apple announcements is inevitably followed by days of Wired gushing about how "Apple's new X product is going to CHANGE THE WORLD!"
2) They frequently do heavily biased reporting on their own sister companies without disclosing their own conflict of interest. The most shameful recent example of this was the Ellen Pao case. Wired had daily articles for three or four weeks straight of heavily pro-Pao coverage, all without once ever disclosing that she's now the CEO of one of their own sister companies.
If you really believe that a minimum wage can increase the welfare of poor people, why not raise it to $500/hour? Then we can all be rich!
And if you really believe that a long-overdue increase in minimum wage is going to bankrupt American corporations, then I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. Only driven on by a little old lady on her way to church, a real bargain!
Was he one of the career intelligence officers who claimed that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction? Or was he one of the career intelligence officers who completely didn't see 9-11 coming at all? Or perhaps was he one of the career intelligence officers who had no idea where Osama Bin Laden was until some random tipster called them up and told them his address?
Move to Chattanooga. It's one of the few cities in the southeast that built up a hugely successful municipal broadband fiber-optic system before the telcos bribed the state legislators into killing them off everywhere else. It's like an island paradise in the sea of shit (which the scumbag legislators of TN have been trying to sink for years).
You people don't understand because you seem to be working under the assumption that politicians are out to serve the public, and that this is somehow an ideological issue. If you look at it instead as "scumbag politicians, acting purely in their own self-interest, soliciting big campaign donations from cablecos/telcos" it makes a lot more sense, doesn't it?
