    How do you figure unions aren't required when the Unions lead the fight for greater benefits, which these other people benefited from?

    Do you think the manager at your dad's plant would have offered more benefits if the union guys across the street weren't getting them?

    And a moonbase makes as much sense as the "International Space Station".

    If we started TODAY, in 50 years we'd have all the pieces. Sustainable, Renewable, Non-Polluting Energy; Heavy Lift to GEO; And the ability to deploy a workforce to GEO to do the work needed.

    NASA hasn't been worth shit w.r.t. manned spaceflight since Nixon.

    And I don't really consider shuttle operations "sending people into space". That's just "sending people into low-earth-orbit."

    Sending people to Mars. That's sending people into space.

    April 1957 to July 1969 = 12 years from STARTING the Saturn project to landing on the moon.

    My biggest problem here is that they should already be flying X-vehicles. Wasn't that how progress was made? One to crash, One to fly, and One to hang up in the Smithsonian?

    Since Ares keeps getting reduced in capabilities, I'm not confident that in 2015 ( when it's scheduled to start running ) we'll actually have anything delivered, and it's going to be another Turkey.

    Step 1: Get NASA out of Manned Spaceflight.
    Step 2: Success.
    Step 3: Profit!

    This morning, I posted this on Brian Jones' Blog....

    HERE is the Gotcha.

    I don't see *any* promises or commitments that ALL FILE FORMATS will ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE, much less in a timely manner to ensure interoperability. Note the use of "existing versions".

    From the OSP page:

    Q: Does this OSP apply to all versions of the standard, including future revisions?

    A: The Open Specification Promise applies to all existing versions of the specification(s) designated on the public list posted at http://www.microsoft.com/interop/osp/, unless otherwise noted with respect to a particular specification (see, for example, specific notes related to web services specifications).

    Analog degrades more gracefully than Digital, so I'd say that Bad Analog is WAY Better than Bad Digital. With digital, you can't hide the warts.

    Yes, I do realize that RIGHT NOW we don't have, and can't recreate the lifting capacity we had way-back-when. That is essentially what I was lamenting.

    The only thing to NASAs credit today is JPL and the robotic missions. Those don't totally suck.

    However, I don't think we can do it 100 years from now, given that we've gone essentially nowhere for the past 40.

    Bizarro am happy.

    1) After all this time we can't send someone up there to clean this up.

    2) We can't send the Navy to secure the space-lanes-of-commerce.
