The 15-20 minute call to swap out my modem for a $15 one I found at a thrift store was straight forward and easy.
Don't you consider having to make that phone call in the first place a problem?
What's the alternative? I don't think they can just tell whose house a particular modem on their network is located in. I'd imagine they have to tie the MAC back to your account somehow, and the phone call is how they do that.
Why is your anti-virus deleting files instead of quarantining them!?
That's a great question, and the primary reason I switched away from AVG when version 7 came out and the default action went from quarantine to delete. (The secondary being all the pieces of it I didn't want, like the Firefox integration, that it put on without making it really clear what it was doing.)
I really wish they get rid of their multiple editions. I see only need for Windows 7 and Windows 7 Server
Heck, I wish they'd go further than that. I think there should only be Windows 7, period. If you want to have different sets of optimizations for desktop/server/home/corporate use, make it something you configure in control panel, not something you need a different version of the OS for.
I only saw DS9 after 9/11. I remember that part and thought it was surprisingly prophetic given the events that had happened between when it originally was filmed and when I got to set it.
how does the machine know what your password is to do the encryption on the string before it sends it if you never sent it over the wire?
Your password does go over the wire when you set/change it. It then gets stored for use during the later encryption processes (actually IIRC it stores a "password equivalent", i.e. a hash, but a hash that can be used in place of the password, so it must be protected as if the password itself was being stored).
Army = soldier
Navy = sailor
USMC = marine
Air Force = airman
The thing that's always bugged me about that is as a result the best generic term the DOD could come up with was "warfighter". Ugh.

I ate in the afternoon. -> I lunched.
Verbing weirds language.
posted here only for the april fools achievement, obviously.
There's an April Fools achievement? Guess I should actually RTFA... uh... RTFF for once then.
(Or I can just post here and see what happens... like I'd ever do that...)
I've never seen half-degrees on a U.S. HVAC system.
Mine has it, but only for display; settings are still done in whole degrees F.
Better just start carving all secret information into the side of my arms and legs.
How do I know I can trust you not to reveal my secret information?
Their attempts at using lasers to improve their extreme suicide rate has thus far been unsuccessful.
Depends on how you define "improve".
Damn, I'll need to tell everyone to be less obvious at the next meeting...

Question (and I haven't researched this AT ALL): Could you use certificate-based authentication instead of password-based?
Well I'll be damned.

It took me 2.5 hours to vote this morning... and I live on the outskirts of Northern Virginia (Herndon, to be exact)
Apparently the secret was to wait until the afternoon. I'm in Herndon too (outside the town limits) and voted around 4pm. Took 5 minutes.

Isn't that redundant?
I get the impression that their ballots read like insurance claim forms (designed to make you fail).
Nah, they aren't that bad really. Here are a few samples from my county for this year's election (PDF):

AOL considers the original bourne shell vulgar?
Most people do.

(CBS bans secondary channels).
You sure about that? My local CBS has 2 secondaries; a weather channel and this goofy "local" thing.
How the hell do you "Try to fire" someone .. either you do it or you don't.
Often in government-type jobs, you can challenge a dismissal action against you. If your challenge is successful, then yes, they "tried to fire" you.
You are wearing a red and white club tie in a half-windsor knot.
Says the drooling iguana? ;)
Devil's advocate...
Its bullshit, not everybody can have a credit cardTrue, but can't pretty much everybody get a debit card tied back to a checking account?
