    Then just some basic association or personalization lists -- people who rated this app high also rated these other apps, bought this/bought that, etc. -- would be huge.

    I think what's needed (and what I use) is third party sites to vet and recommend apps. I really like toucharcade for games. if they say something is good, then I often go check it out.

    There's an argument for implementing best practices even when there's no defined direct benefit. Often it can take longer to analyze whether something's justified than just to plan on the best practice. Also, considering this system could be in place for 10 years then someone else touches it, it is good to know that best practices have been used to date. kinda like building codes that way.

    My wife and I have adopted a policy of not paying until at least 6 months later, or after those two sort it out, since you can never get your money BACK once sent, but until they settle it out there's no way to know what is owed.

    I have a similar policy, to never pay the first bill. if it is still outstanding after a few more weeks they'll bill you again.

    the iOS development market is dried up for most developers, unless you can get a job at some company that wants an iOS app.

    umm duh? i don't understand the point of this. the nurse market is pretty dried up except for some job in healthcare.

    I don't know why you shouldn't "waste" your time learning about a dead platform.

    I think the only reason why not is that time is a finite and limited commodity and if you spend it on one thing then you can't spend it on another thing.. people are saying if you're going to learn something new and arcane you might as well learn something that they deem more applicable. this is ultimately them speaking about their own life limitations like kids or what not; obviously you (you, the submitter not you the parent) are the only one who can make that decision about yourself. But I believe that this answers the question that you (you, the GP, also you, the submitter) posed about the rationale.

    my personal reaction is that it's a horrifically extravagant use of precious spare time, much like buying solid gold cat toys is an extravagant use of discretionary income. but I'm speaking from my own life situation.

    The real question is whether this level of childish behavior helps to make Linux a better product or makes it a worse product. The ultimate proof of its success is in market share against other operating systems. Hold on, let me go check the newest stats... Ok Linux is a failure and if this where any rational company Linus would be fired.

    Maybe if he wasn't so abusive then Linux wouldn't be a niche for nerd-tards. I would say the failure of Linux in the marketplace is proof positive that his management style is a failure. If this were an actual company he would be canned.

    the brain is likely choosing which pitch to throw, e.g. high and outside fastball, but the arm does the throwing, i.e, snap the wrist at the exact moment to give it the spin it needs.
