You CAN see and touch the equipment yourself...just get in your car and drive to the colo facility....present your eyeball/hand/face for access and you can do anything you want with your cage;)
Yeah its a big colo facility with lots of speed but in my experience its also a pain in the ass. As of right now they are fighting with PSI.net ( a fairly large provider ) about access to their peeing point....Exodus wants PSI to pay and PSI wants exodus to pay because they are not an ISP. My old company ( which I just quit ) had a lot of customers who were using Exodus and we were on PSI...frustrating as hell....
I used to be a Metallica fan back in the days of Ride the Lightning MOP and Kill'em all. I bought EVERY SINGLE one of the CDs tapes and some rare stuff released in other countries. Back then I was just a kid...I remember trying to go to one of their concerts and had to PLEAD with my parents to go see them. I eventually got to go after my parents forked out $80 for festival seating. Therefore I think it is complete crap that they are suing napster and trying to bully users into not using it anymore. If I bought the CD ( 4 times in the case of Kill'em all because of theft or defects ) I feel I have the right to download it from napster if I'm at work and want to listen to it instead of lugging the damn CD with me everywhere I go. Screw Metallica and screw anyone else trying to fight the wave MP3's. They are here to stay and there isn't anything that the RIAA or Metallica or any OTHER band they start puppeting for their cause can do about it. And just as a note LARS don't you think the record companies are selling your "ART" as a comodity you moron. BTW I doubt very much 100 years from now you'll see gallaries for Metallica's art.
A truly intelligent post made by someone who OBVIOUSLY finished H.S. in the deep south. All you racist bastards are about being anonymous ( KKK AC )...wonder why that is? So you don't have to face the same ridicule from the people you constantly bad mouth?
OK that doesn't make sense...do you honestly think that the courts anyone with half a brain is going to forgive you after you decide to purchase the albums AFTER you got caught? Thats like stealing a car and then getting caught for it and saying "Well I'll buy it now!"
Whether or not "Dr. Shug Knight beat me like a bitch" wants to sue the entire internet is the not the issue...its really about him going after SOME users...there is no way he could sue everyone but he sure as hell will be able to sue a FEW of them and that is what is important. It will be another victory for the RIAA saying "If you steal music we WILL get you" when in fact 99.9% of the MP3 users will never be affected. Its just going to be a publicity win to make an example out of a few people.
and on other subjects but the mySQL book and the Linux firewalls book I purchase from new riders were excellent. I got the Linux Firewalls book for a reference when changing to ipchains. I'm a Systems Administrator and I have MANY O'Reilly books that are great. I would recomment AGAINST getting the O'Reilly mySQL book ( a friend of mine has both and I've taken a look at the O'Reilly book ) it does not cover as much information and the information it does cover is not done as well. Anyone reading this should seriously consider this New Rider Title. Especially since xtal didn't read it and I did. Gary
I bought this book a while ago....

and it is great. I am familiar with databases to an extent and recently started working on a web based PHP project that would be helped along with a database. I chose mySQL for many reasons and was able to finish my project. I then bought the book to expand my mySQL knowlege and it was great. Very easy to understand and full of information. I would recommend this book to anyone who would like to learn about mySQL including people that have used other RDBMS. As a side note this is my 2nd book from New Riders and both have been great. If I get a couple more this good they are going to be my new favorite publisher. Gary
OK your not smart. How can you say it will not affect you?! If the market dives the economy will start to struggle...companies that had large market caps will no longer be able to pay you insane salaries anymore and McDonalds may start looking like a fine place to work....extreme of course....and even if this does NOT affect you it surely will affect someone you know if it keeps up....
As this site becomes more popular, you are going to increase the size of flames and bad comments. By giving the users a chance to speak their mind you are opening yourself up to this kind of abuse. While I am not one to usually critisize this site
( because I find it a great place to hear about stories with topics that I enjoy. I also like to hear what people in my field ( and some that are not ) have to say about them).
I think that you should either ride the monster you created or get off...just don't start trying to justify the stories. If this truly is a site that was created to shed light on things that the creater thought were interesting you should be able to post about how fast cement cures...and if people don't like it then they can go somewhere else.
Hey I'm in boston...want to hook up? J/K but your right about the market here its fierce...the last offer I got was from a company I didn't even hear of until they called.
I just got an offer from a company well above my current salary for doing basically the same work. Not to say I'm not worth it of course;). I think that if there isn't a shortage if IT folks there is at least a shortage of IT folks with good skills. I'm seeing friends of mine ( sorry guys ) that are getting hired at outrageous salaries when they don't really have the skills to perform the job as well as it could be. And it isn't like they are overselling themselves they are being honest. Maybe companies are investing in talent and I have a horrible idea of what good salaries are. I'm getting calls weekly from headhunters (I'm not sure how a-typical that is though) wanting me to leave my job for "A lot more money doing better things" ( at least that is the common phrase ).
Actually he DID just make changes to SLS to start...eventually it evolved into what is now slackware. Originally it was just SLS with modifications...then the installation scripts were re-done ( they WERE from SLS ).
When you take away the fluff of the merger/spin-off news what does this really mean for Slackware in terms of development and long-term goals? Will there be more resources working to make Slackware even better than it is today (the best damn distribution of Linux out there IMHO), will there be an attempt to go public and sell your services if so any ideas on partnerships ( this would be good for convincing stubborn bosses to use it more often ). I know this has probably been hashed out already so I'm not going to try and give the pros and cons I'm just interested in what will be happening with an OS that I use on a daily basis.
Does he just not read the articles he posts? These two didn't get charged because they were in possesion of the the software, they got arrested and charged because they commited a crime/s with it. If they were using it to actually test security or whatever on their own machines thats one thing....to steal user IDs and passwords is another....would it be OK if I used a similar tool on Slashdot and started posting crap from anyone/everyone here?
I used to work usually between 60-65 hours a week but if you count how many times I took big projects home with me to work on and all the time I spend checking on our systems and checking on the systems that check our systems and the pages and phone calls for problems etc I'm probably working close to 70-80 hrs/week, so I decided to cut my hours at work so I do about 40-50 now but after everything I do at home its still over 60. The worst thing that ever happened to my work/personal life was Salary. Gary

I'm running an Athlon 650 with the Asus K7M MB and it smokes running NT. I just installed HP LC3 Netservers at work with Dual XEON 500s with 512M RAM Running NT and my NT station at home still runs faster ( even before I put SQL 7 on the XEON box ). Now I dont' have any benchmarks to go with it just personal use. Nevermind when I boot linux on this ( now that the kernel has been updated ). My KDE desktop rocks. I would def. recommend the athlon to anyone who can find the K7M board. Gary

I sure hope your not and that is what is coming! Then I'll finally be able to use it in production and make a good argument for its use at work.

Don't people have anything better to do than post crap about the people posting crap about slashdot moderation?

If you cannot afford either then you don't need a computer...break out a pen and paper and do your calculations that way. Consider a job

Have a look at this interview with Patrick from 1994 in Linux Journal

NO The flaw was with Inel engineering on the chipset now with the Ram.

The cdrom.com site states it will be available in November...doesn't give a date though.
