Sorry this is such a late reply, I wasn't around on Sunday.
Anyway, I'm glad to see other people out there remember the 'ole 6502. Just to clear things up a bit, the 6502 had 5 registers. You forgot the Processor status (P) register which held the test flags. On the other hand though there was no way to access this register directly, just through test instructions.
All part of the desensitization people have to violence.
Since when have people been desensitized to violence? Violence has been around since the beginning of man. What, do you think wars, sexual harassment, murders, public execution, etc, etc... began in the twentieth century or something?
I hate to break it to you but people have been using animals for their meet since the beginning of man. And cultivating animals for their meet, ever since we left our hunting and gathering era.
I've spent a good year and half at an old job using MFC. I've come to the conclusion that it's really a waste of time since you can write a VB app with the same performance in a fraction of the development time. If you're writing a windows app in C++ I'm assuming it for performance reasons, if that's so just stick with win32. If you're going to be using MFC, you might as well be using Visual Basic, you'll get the same performace ratios. (sorry I don't have any statistics proofs on me now). If VB doesn't do all you hope for, just write a.dll in C with you're high performance code, then call it from a VB app.
Some one define "platonic truths" for me please. I don't think I grasp the point of the quoted statement in the article.
And please don't just give me a Dictionary definition!
That's pretty funny, but that's not a BSOD, it's just an error popup window. BSOD would be a completely blue screen giving you some archaic error message in which the only recovery is a re-boot.
What are you so up tight about. First of all, it's a good chance that this guy is being sarcastic. Secondly there is nothing in his post that could be considered "Scream[ing] foul." He simply states that he would prefer certain windows apps over KDE apps even though he would prefer the KDE desktop.
How on earth you go moded to a 4, Insightful is beyond me. It just shows how much Linux bigotry goes on in Slashdot.
Does anyone know where Andy Greenberg and Robert Woodhead are these days? Wizardry was truly revolutionary... Andy was a student at Cornell in the early 80s but I don't know what happened to him after that...
Christ you've got to be kidding. We're talking about REAL datastores here. Sure if you're talking about 1-10mb worth of information over a trusted user base, Excel might be fine. But in a real datasource model, with gigs of information at an undefined userbase, Excel has no abilities. Not to mention having no data integrety.
I remember one day when it was blazing hot sunshine in the morning, afternoon it was pouring with rain, then it snowed in the evening.
Only in Britain i tell you.
Gnutella seems cool, but almost every time I try to download something I get put into a waiting queue, then ultimitly a 'could not download' sort of message pops up. What Gives?
Personally I don't have a problem with this stuff happening, but I'm not MySQL AB.
Would Taco have a problem if I created cmdrtaco.com (oppose to cmdrtaco.net) "with the apparent goal to confuse the huge worldwide community of" Slashdot Users?
Just curious, I don't have anything agains the guy, I just wonder how someone/company/organization would feel if they were in MySQL's shoes.
I just recently bought a place in the Cleveland area. After spending about 3 months of my time searching Realtor.com/local realtor site/ and a few others, I found that nothing beats a local realtor that has experience in that area. My suggestion is to find a realtor that you know or that a friend can refer you too and you can trust.
Working with a realtor, you'll find that there are so many more listings then what is presented on the web. Also, we all know the (location, location, location) importance, but another very important aspect of buying a home is TIMING. The best locations can sell quick, and working with a realtor can give you access to the newest listings before anyone decides to put them out on the web. Or, if you wait around too long it gives another party a chance to put a bid in, and you end up in a bidding war.
One last point if you're a first time home buyer, working with a realtor can help you with the negotiating process and working with the bank. But like I said before, make sure you work with someone you know or trust.
"I could use some more ideas though..."
Sell some on Ebay. people are paying reasonable bucks. They're turning into collectors items.

On a side note, if you want real cheap hardware checkout your local university surplus store
This is true, I once bought a PDP10 for $3 USD at a university auction. No joking!
Did anyone else note the innane quotes from Michael Vecchione?
No, not really.

Nope, in Cleveland, Ohio too!
Damn it! I have a wedding that weekend.
I am using Limewire. Limewire is just a client that uses the Gnutella p2p network.

Yikes! Did you really want to perform a search on David Lee Roth???

Does the mayonnaise have to be Helmans or something? Because I'm trying it with a Generic brand and getting a stack overflow error.
Maybe NASA could borrow that Pig Blimp from Pink Floyd. That would be interesting to see float by Saturn or the dark side of the moon.
Sorry, pun intended. I suck!

Let me sex them up a little before you launch them off.
